You two used to talk all night.” Mia hesitated, then opened Lily’s profile. They hadn’t spoken in weeks, though she liked every picture Lily posted. It felt strange to call now, after all this time. “I’m fine, Mom,” she muttered, going back to scrolling. The next day at school, Mia saw Lily across the hall. She wanted to wave, but her hand stayed glued to her phone. Lily glanced her way, then looked down at her own screen. The moment passed. That night, Mia decided to put her phone down. Betty: (Looking up with a smile) Oh, Tom! Welcome back. Did you have a hard day at the office?

Tom: Oh, you know how it is, Betty. Numbers here, numbers there, and Johnson trying to teach me about this “social media” thing again.

Betty: Social media? Is that the contraption the neighbors won’t stop yammering about?

Tom: That’s the one. Apparently, you “tweet” your thoughts, “like” other people’s photos, and “friend” strangers. It’s supposed to bring people together.

Betty: Bring people together? Why, what’s wrong with bridge club and the neighborhood bake-off?

Tom: Good question! I said to Johnson, “If I want to tell someone my thoughts, I’ll pick up the phone, thank you very much.”

Betty: (Giggling) Oh, Tom. You’re so traditional. But I must admit, it does sound strange. Why would anyone spend hours looking at a little screen when they could be hosting tea parties?

This multi genre project has challenged me very much and has made me remember from times in my past. The biggest challenge me was staying on topic with my genres. I found that the sources I used gave me all the information I knew and needed.

With choosing this topic connecting to it was not very hard for me to connect to because I went through it before, but moving forward I will use more creative genres

In all this project made me remember and learn about what social media has did to socializing and now I understand it more fully now.
