The Zookeeper’s Wife is about a couple who lives Warsaw and runs a local zoo. Their life was great. They were wealthy and had large land for their zoo. Because of this, the soldiers took over their land and made camp. Throughout the war they would both hide people who were affected by the war. They used their zoo and house to keep everyone safe and out of sight. Another big event that occurred was the jews that got sent to the ghetto and later gone to the camp. It is overall a very interesting story and based off real people and events.

I've always been an animal lover, and my fascination with ancient horses led me to a Polish forest, then to the Warsaw zookeepers adopting orphan animals from that forest, then to the zookeeper's wife, then to her diary, which I had translated for me.” - Diana Ackerman

The main theme of this book is betrayal and sympathy. I chose betrayal because it shows many people betraying people and making everything worse for the many people who were affected. I chose sympathy as well because of what Antonina and Ryszard did with hiding the people and all the many animals.

I chose this book because WWII was such a horrible time. This book really interested me and knowing information about the war really made this book interesting. This book was full of suspense, mystery, and grief. I would recommend this to people who are interested in “before the war” books. The story was overall interesting and I was mostly engaged while reading the whole book.

The story takes place in Warsaw, Poland. It was a very dangerous time in history because it was the start of the war. The main setting takes place in the zoo in their backyard. They had many animals and many people who attended the zoo. Throughout the story the setting transfers into the town hall and all around town. Overall the main setting takes place in the zoo, house, and the town. The story goes through the four seasons because of the many years the war had continued.
