For example, for my first exam in D&T, we were required <del>us</del> to build a wooden model of the card holder that we designed. For music, we had to learn how to play the song, over the rainbow, on a keyboard. Lastly, for F&N we had to prepare a fusion dish, which combines dishes from two cultures into one dish. Through all these experiences, I had to focus more on my ability to think outside of the box, which is often neglected in schools, and allowed me to express myself. Hence, I believe that I have been exposed to many forms of arts in my life through the education system.
In addition, my school offers programs that are specially made to explore their artistic side and creativity.

i am not expose to the arts in school. Firstly, art was a compulsory subject from sec1 to sec2 that everyone have to art regardless. This exposes students like me to art as we are taught different colouring and painting technique . through these art classes our knowledge and appreciation for art has greatly increase. Until today some of my friends who donot take art visits art museum to appreciation the art pieces they have on display.
secondly, the school havev recently expose its schools to Chinese arts and culture for example the Chinese song chuan yu sang during morning assemble. This has deepen the schools population understanding and love towards Chinese culture and art. After that morning assembly Chinese song have gained much traction.

incomplete; ungraded

STAND:Yes , I am exposed to the arts in school.
P: The school system makes it mandatory for us to be exposed to the arts in the curriculum.
E : During our lower secondary years, we have music lessons and art lessons which exposes us to different types of art . E: Through this , we can learn new skills in life as well .
E: For example , our school encourages us to learn new instruments, such as the ukelele and piano .
E: The school provided us opportunities to find ourselves a new passion and hobby to partake in .

P: Secondly, the school also organises a series of programmes to expose us to the arts.
E: Even though we are not required to take aesthetic subjetcs at the upper secondary level, we have opprtunities to appreciate art through performing arts concerts, school shows and musicals etc...
E: (This is an example, not a point-->)Another example would be those of us who take up art as an 'O' level subject where our art teachers are passionate about teaching us different techniques and approaches <del>towards us . </del>
E: We also learn to appreciate different types of art through learning journeys to art museums and theatres.

However , some say argue and say that Singapore's education system mainly focuses on our sciences and , or math.

In upper secondary, we rarely have the chance to showcase our arts , <del>be able to </del>practice various forms of arts and learn to appreciate them . This could be because of this common belief that a career in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) would offer better income opportunities. Thus, less attention is paid on the arts.

Despite this , I still strongly believe that we are encouraged to expose ourselves to the arts in our school as there are much more opportunities given to us , regardless whether it was in lower or upper secondary . Personally , I really appreciated and liked musics lessons as it allowed me to learn new instruments which can serve as a bonus for me in life . Art does not only teaches me hard skills, it teaches me soft skills as well such as creative thinking, teamwork etc...

Offers perspective(s) with some development; NEED TO ELABORATE MORE; SEE SUGGESTIONS IN BOLD

• Some attempt at using a range of vocabulary and structures; vocab still considered simple

I disagree with this statement. The arts can increase academic skills such as spatial reasoning and higher-level thinking to develop essential social skills such as self-confidence, empathy, risk-taking, and creativity. A report from the National Endowment for the Arts showed that low-income students with a high level of arts experience in school are more likely to pursue college, vote, and volunteer in their community. Furthermore, studies on socioeconomic status and the arts have found that the relationship between arts participation and academic achievement is vital for the lowest-income students. Thus, keeping skills in schools fosters creativity and improves academic performance.

Another reason is, that participation in the arts can reduce stress levels. In many scientific studies, scientists have found that when you create, you engage a different part of your brain. Taking 45 minutes to work on art can clear your head and help you see problems in a fresh light. As a result, arts are important for reducing stress.

However, some may argue that participating in the arts is of no benefit to us since it doesn't appear to be an essential part of living. While science and math can be used in our everyday lives, art is not something we need every day. For example, many galleries and theatres closed for almost two years due to Covid. Some people were frustrated, but most people barely noticed.

In spite of this, even if some don’t learn anything, arts play an important part in many people’s lives as it can reduce stress as well as encourage creativity. Thus, these lifelong skills that we can gain from participating in the arts will serve us well in our future endeavours.

• Offers well-considered responses with coherent and well-developed perspective(s)
• Uses a wide range of well-chosen vocabulary and structures;

I disagree with this statement as I believe that we have a lot of things to learn from participating in arts.

One reason is that by participating in arts we can pick up a new skill that could be very helpful in our future life or future career. For example, Bill Gates of Microsoft enjoys American Arts. <del>He succeeded by</del> By attending programmes that he favoured and pursuing his inetrest in the arts, he now has a great career. Therefore, by participating in performing arts like technology, it can help in our future career.

Another reason is that it can help us boost our self-confidence, improve our mood and also improve problem solving skills.
For example, according to National Library of Medicine(NIH),it states that artists have improved in their self-esteem after participating in arts programme and were able to relieve their stress and overcome challenges with a positive mindset. Therefore, with the help of arts, we are able to improve in our self-esteem and boost problem solving skills and eventually relieve our stress.

However, some may think that participating in these kinds of arts may not be useful to them as there is a common belief that a caeer in the arts will not provide much income opprtunities / stable source of income<del> and would waste their time when they could do their own things like studying and improving in their grades.</del>

Despite this donwside, I still <del>Thus, I</del> believe that there would definitely be a thing or two that could be learnt when we participate in arts and it would greatly benefit us.

• Offers perspective(s) with some development NEED TO USE YOUR OWN PERSONAL EXAMPLES/ EXPERIENCE to substantiate your points
• Some attempt at using a range of vocabulary and structures;

stand: No, I disagree that we have nothing to gain by participating in the arts.

P: Firstly, the arts inculcate values and morals in students.
E: for example, Singapore Youth Festival(SYF) allows students to have the chance to display their arts creativity / showmanship and get rewarded according to how well they perform.
E: Individually, in order to do a good job in the performance, students have to prepare their lines (Drama), scores (band) etc. Moreover, we would need to have hand-eye coordination and sightread to read and play the instrument at the same time.
E: This shows that patience and determination can be built through the preparation of SYF.
L: Thus, we are able to gain good values by participating in arts.

P: Secondly, the arts provide us with many opprtunties to socialise and widen our social network. <del>I disagree that we have nothing to gain by participating in the arts.</del>
E: For example, our school has a annual talent show (guangyang got talent) to allow students to showcase their interest and skills to the whole school.
E: Students can pair up or team up with people from different classes or with same interest and allows them to bond and make new friends.
E: This shows that arts can bring people together physically and widen your social circle.
L: Thus, there are benefits from participating in the arts.

However some may say that you cannot gain anything from participating in arts. For example, teamwork can be build through values in actions (VIA) and group projects in school. Students are to foster friendships through these programs organized by the school. This shows that teamwork does not have to come from arts and can come from various other programs. Thus benefits can also be reaped from other things other than arts.

Conclusion : Despite this, I still feel that arts will allow us to gain something out of it. The experience of participating in the arts helps to develop a student holistically, ensuring that he or she will gain many valuable soft and hard skills that will them in the future.

• Offers some thoughtful responses with generally well-developed perspective(s)
• Uses a range of largely appropriate vocabulary and structures;

I disagree , since we are exposed to arts in school. i think we do gain something when we participate in Arts

I feel this way because in my school, we have many arts programs in school. Such examples are us having art lessons and also music lessons in lower secondary. Together with, the school providing us with musical show of our school band. Thus, having these art program can help us build our knowledge of genres of music and help improve our patience, multi-tasking skills and cognitive ability. New research reveals that the arts may prime our neural circuitry for a broad range of activities, boosting crucial cognitive and social skills like spoken and written language, focus, self-control, and empathy. Hence, I feel that we do gain from participating in Arts.

One reason is, by participating in the arts, we can benefit from it. Participating in arts teaches us to be more expressive. For example, using paint, words, movements and sounds to express an emotion or convey a message. We eventually learn to express our emotions or ideas through different mediums which allows us to be more expressive. In real world situations, the ability to clearly express your ideas or emotions will help us since this will misunderstanding which improves social skills.

But some may argue that an art, such as music, is a distraction. For example, music may act as a distraction while doing tasks such as studying. Music acts as an object with a terrifying grasp that distracts its victims from tasks. This causes its users to not finish what they need to on time, inflicting a negative impact.

Despite this, I still feel that we do gain something from arts. Although music can act as a distraction, music often helps to block out many other distractions such as our phones. Additionally, it reduces the number of distractions we have to only music. Ultimately making it easier to focus on our tasks as we only have one distraction to get out the way.

• Offers well-considered responses with coherent and well-developed perspective(s)
• Uses a wide range of well-chosen vocabulary and structures;

1]I disagree. we have many things to gain by participating in the arts.
2]in performing arts cca, we often go through tough and stressful practices<del>. such as having 3 days practices per week, facing , </del>meeting high expectations and receiving harsh scolding from instructors. Having to go through these obstacles in the performing arts ccas<del>, it</del> enables us to learn from our weaknesses, build up our strengths and morale. These lessons also imparts us values such as resilience, responsibility, care, etc.... For example, when my band instructor points out a mistake in my playing, i learn from it and do my best to improve myself. Hence, by participating in the arts, we improve as a person mentally, ultimately benefiting us.
3]by participating in the arts, we can learn new abilities.
for example, before joining band, i had no experience with music. After joining band, i learnt not only how to read music scores but also play a music instrument properly. Joining band, a performing arts cca, allowed me to enhance my knowledge in music. Hence, by participating in the arts, we benefit by learning new abilities, which are beneficial to us in the future.
4] however, some people may not This can be due to the common belief that a career in the arts does not bring much income opportunities / stable source of income so people are more focused on other aears such as science, math, technology etc...
<del>participating if you already have experience in the arts, may be boring as you have already learnt the things the arts will be teaching, </del>eventually leading to waste of time, relearning.
5]in conclusion, i still feel that participating in the arts gives us many benefits both physically and mentally. I foresee that in the future, there will be more benefits the arts will have and people will start viewing the arts as an essential part of our lives.

• Offers some thoughtful responses with generally well-developed perspective(s)
• Uses a range of largely appropriate vocabulary and structures;

No. i would not enjoy an activity like birdwatching. Birdwatching is a time-consuming process that requires you to be patient. Furthermore, <del>as</del> birdwatching can only be done in places such as parks or forests which may be out of reach from my house. Thus, it would be inconvenient for me travel to such places. Old people are usually involved in this activity as they value socialising with others who share the same interest and being in peace with nature. <del>Despite all this,</del> Perhaps, I might give it a try one day, as it may be refreshing change of scenery and <del>as </del>it is something i have never done before. It may be interesting as it not energy consuming and lets me relax.

Stand:Yes,i am exposed to the arts in school.

AGREE Point: The education system in Singapore exposes us to the arts through various school programmes. In Gyss,arts programmes are being held to let us get the taste of arts.
E: For example there are <del>programme such as GYGT in school other than letting student performed in school to promote arts, there is other way such as providing</del> many opportunities for students to be exposed the arts in school like the Guangyang's Got Talent, performing arts CCAs like band, drama and dance etc.
E: This <del>build up</del> piques the interest of those who keen in art <del>in student and make student well practice in these art they had chosen such as my band instructor will give us extra time to practice our instruments during co curriculum activity(CCA).
</del>
AGREE Point: Besides school,

<del>I'm also encourage to join arts programme that is held out of school like piano music schools to build the interest of art in teenager like us or even younger children. </del><del>

</del><del>However I had also seen some discourage i</del><del>n taking art as a project in art firstly</del>

DISAGREE Point: However, there is lesser focus on aesthetic subjects as compared to math and science. Art is only compulsory in sec 1-2 while math and chemistry is required in any level and <del>and any project u choose,</del> it seems <del>to tell </del>that sciences and math is considered more important than arts, <del>instead of taking arts it seems like</del> as the school wants us to pursue sciences that benefit economy in the future but not art.

Overall I still think<del>s </del>that I'm being more encouraged to exposed to arts as there is a lot of programme for our art student and i think my principal did take arts student seriously, all medal won by art student will be display at general office to make us feel proud.
I think art will become one of the most important subject in our life as art teaches us many skills and values such as creative thinking, pateience, teamwork etc... <del>and also one of the important subject in school in the future.</del>

broken English, inaccurate language; hard to understand

• Offers perspective(s) with simple development

• Simple vocabulary and structures are broken
