By Wednesday, please reflect on what you will include in your mentor log and why? Then, thoughtfully comment by Friday on a minimum of two class members' responses.

I like the idea of a more “mentee led” log. I would start the log out with “mentee reflections”, but also have a list of stems ready to use as the conversation unfolded. I am all about more open dialogue compared to a structured agenda when it comes to mentoring. To have a direction is important but it isn’t always possible to anticipate what is going to happen. It is critical to have an open mind going into a mentor meeting. I would probably like to note “what went well” and “what will take a different direction next time”. I would wrap the meeting/log up with “what the mentee needs from the mentor”.

Jon Frykman- Mentor log

I have completed a year long mentor log and I am torn on the idea. I was "mentoring" a teacher that taught 10 more years than me. I really didn't follow the log but tried to meet at least bare minim that was required of me. I think meeting outside the classroom or school setting with a couple mentor mentee's groups would be the best thing. I think the log sheet should be more about asking questions and using it like an exit ticket rather than a tracking device. How many forms, procedures, conversions, lessons plans, behavior plans, PLC minutes, can a new teacher handle. I think adding on more thing to the process would have to be what the mentee finds useful. So, again to clarify mentor logs are good, but I don't want to make more work so I can do my Mentor job easier because the mentee has to plug in all this info. Hope that makes sense......
