Saint John (don) Bosco was an Italian Roman-Catholic Priest, educator and writer of the 19th century, and was born on August 16th, 1815 in Becchi, Italy. He was the youngest of three children and was raised by his mother as his father died when he was only 2. The Bosco's were an extremely poor family, yet they always found ways to give to those in need. Throughout his life, Father Bosco was devoted to his Catholic faith and often visited the church most days. At the age of nine, he received his first sign from God in a dream where a man and woman appeared, telling John what he should do. John heard signs from The Lord to help his mates at his school which was 3 miles away to become closer to God.

His entire life's work was to care for young people and protect them. He was thought to always see the best in children. Don did very well in school and never gave up on his dream of becoming a priest. His dream became a reality when in 1835 when John was 20 he began his seminary, the first footsteps of becoming a priest. After 6 years of study, John Bosco was ordained. His first mass held in the same church as St Francis of Assisi.

Father Bosco formed somewhat a club for the boys he cared for, each time they'd meet it would be in a different place. He would teach them of faith and the path of virtue and introduce them to new learning opportunities. Eventually, the group of boys that father John looked after grew into 700 in which he eventually founded the Salesians Society. When Saint John Bosco died in 1888, there were 250 Salesian homes for boys.

The parable was set on the rocky terrained road from Jerusalem to Jericho in Jesus’ lifetime. Whilst going down this road a Jewish man was robbed of his belongings and of his clothes and was in very poor shape. To fully understand why the following characters acted in their certain way you must have knowledge of some of the purity laws, one in which states that certain important people of the Jewish Church were prevented from touching him as not to “get their hands dirty”. Both a priest and a Levite-who are both high in the church avoided the injured man, yet a Samaritan who’s beliefs were despised by Jews nursed him back to health without a second thought. Judaism at the time of Jesus was a mixture of divergent social, political and religious ideologies. There was a two-tiered government between the Roman’s and Jew’s. Overall I think the message of the parable was that he was trying to show everyone that everyone can be a good person and to 'Love thy Neighbour'. As is shown that The Good Samaritan was a good person and helped someone that he did not have a good relationship with yet he still helped him.

The basic story-line of the parable “The Good Samaritan” is that you should treat those in need as your neighbour and have just as much respect for then when they are in bad shape then when they are in good. This story takes place when the jew was walking along the road at the time of Jesus Christ. The Jew was mugged and both the priest and the Levite walked around him - as the Jewish laws forbidden them from nursing him back to health due to the rule about people of the church not able to ‘get dirty’ .The Samaritan - who were frowned upon by Jew’s came to the poor mans rescue as soon as he saw him, the Samaritan did not care about the fact that the Jewish people despised him and his beliefs. I think that the author wrote this story for a reason. Although Jesus told this story and shared it with others who were passionate in following the Jewish Laws, He followed and created his own laws. The parable is about a Samaritan- who are despised by nearly all of those around him besides his own people, helping a jew when he was in extremely poor shape. A parable is a story used to show a moral or a spiritual lesson.

Rerum Novarum is the Encyclical written by Pope Leo XIII on fifteenth of May, 1891. It is a record that has an arrangement of Catholic social lessons that are profitable and vital for the age that has been introduced to this literature, in particular, our generation. Rerum Novarum speaks about many different teachings about many different topics that affect our world today. Rerum Novarum is divided into different 'parts'. It is said that John Bosco gave the perfect example of direct help to the swarm of uneducated workers that were compelled to work in risky, unregulated manufacturing facilities. John Bosco, along with his Salesians created hospitals, schools and orphanages in Italy. These helped save many peoples lives. His actions and how he helped the disheartened and poor influenced the writing of the Rerum Novarum.

I think that Jesus, the author of the parable 'The good Samaritan' was conveying messages about religious aspects of stories that people of this day can relate to and understand. Today, I think the message refers to that no matter what your religious background or what you have against someone you can still help or provide care for them, even if you don’t have the same beliefs or agree on the same things. As we should not look into what our differences are, but pay more attention to what we have in common. Three examples today of how the Samaritan acted could include Pope Francis, Saint Francis and my reformer; John Bosco. They all walked/walk in the footsteps of Jesus and preached God's words. This parable's main audience originally was to the Jew's in which Jesus first told the story to, yet today its based on those who need guidance in doing the right thing.

Saint John Bosco followed many of the Priestly, Prophetic and Kingly roles of Jesus throughout his life.

The priestly roles of Jesus that John followed include devoting their lives to worship and prayer in which John has done since a very young age. He has shown his commitment through the gospel. John was literally a priest, he was ordained John Bosco taught young boys to believe in God and if they were in trouble to pray to him and to always have faith.

The prophetic roles of Jesus were speaking out and standing up for human dignity and equality. John followed this by creating the Salesians and helping all those boys guiding them to God. He got them off the street and educated them in faith.

The Kingly roles of Jesus were portrayed by Father Bosco in ways that he acted as a leader and influenced those around him and those who hear about him. He showed this by teaching the boys in need how to turn their life around. When he was younger he also used magic tricks to attack attention and would then enlighten them in the Holy Gospel and Our Father.
