Instead they were chosen by rich patrons, who mostly focused on name recognition. The works of classical composers recognized in canon are now status symbols for the intellectual. All other work is considered low brow.

Which is to say a world conquered by a group of nations in a geographically advantagess location. This group like nearly all other tribes in history was patriarchal. And like every other conqueror they had little interest in the cultural contributions of conquered peoples. Viewing the works of the "Genius Composers" outside of this context would lead people to perpetuate the inequity for no better reason than simple ignorance.
