Part A: Two things I learned while watching the clips were that they really enjoyed music and that Ishmael had no electronics. I connected with Ishmael the most because my parents also had nothing growing up.

Part B: My parents always listened to Thai music in the car and at home. Sometimes they would try to get me to sing along. Later I would watch TV shows that included music like Big Time Rush, Austin and Ally, Victorious, Drake and Josh, and Hannah Montana. At the same time, I listened to pop music by artists like Bruno Mars, Maroon 5, and Justin Timberlake. None of the first songs or artists were meaningful to me, I just enjoyed listening to the music. My experiences with music were different to Ishmael's because I just enjoyed listening to music but not to a point where I wanted to start making music myself.

Part A- Two things I learned while watching the clips were that rap back then is very different from the way it is now. Another thing l learned was that Ishmael and his friends were very interested in other black men speaking so fast and with the beat. That they also wanted to be able to do that. The person I connect to the most in both videos would be Ishmael and being fantasized about how someone can talk so fast and on beat. Also how they put their feelings into the words of the song.

Part B- My Dad was raised in the 60's and was teen in the 70's. So I grew up listening to Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, AC/DC, Led Zeppelin, The rolling stones, John Lennon etc. At first I remember I completely hated the songs no matter what, but they slowly grew on me. I started listing to the music and their meaning, and they were actually amazing songs of that era that anyone could listen to at anytime. The music and songs had begun to become a part of me and has shaped who I am today. My experiences with music compared to Ishmael is different. For example the way I was introduced to music, and how I was introduced about it. Then the way it made an impact of my life and shaped who I am, so considering the information Ishmael and I had different experiences with music.

I also learned/saw how much music has changed over time. I can connect to Taylor Swift because she talks about her personal experiences much like I do.
Part B --- When I was a little girl my parents would play country music for my sister and I. The first artist I really liked was Taylor Swift, she was my first concert. I liked her voice but mostly liked her because my sister and Mom really liked her songs. I guess our experiences are kind of similar because we became interested in music through other people.

Their songs made me really enjoy music and want to pursue it myself. I've always loved listening to each and every lyric to find out a song's meaning. I think my experiences are similar to Ishmael's because we both really connected with the artists we were listening to and wanted to pursue their passions and make them our own.

My dad would alway play pink floyd, led zepplin, and AC/DC in the car and at home.

Part A: I learned about how music has progressed over time with how the beat has progressed over time. It explained in more detail how Ishmael was so interested in seeing black people rap extremely good English. I can personally connect with NF as he had a very difficult childhood but was still able to overcome it. He never really had anyone growing up as people in his family were harsh or missing from his life.

Part B: I can’t really recall listening to any other music than what was on the radio stations which were the favorite songs that were popular at that times. I did like the extremely early 200’s songs (Apple Bottom Jeans, Crank That). Me and my brother would hang out in the extra bedroom we had and just listen to music. I really enjoyed Lady GaGa due to her weird song type and lyrics, Eminem due to his deep topics, and to this day I still enjoy Mr.Brightside(song) as it has an interesting story behind the lyrics. I can’t really relate to his hip hop enjoyments besides how it’s slightly similar to Eminem, other than that I don’t feel the slightly punk/funky music type was similar to his.

As a child and now I still love to listen to these artist. One my my favorite artist is Michel'le. I have a lot of songs that I can relate too, but only a few hit deep. Also I learned that my mom listens to the same music as Ishmael.
B: I remember listening to DJ Kool and other old rap music. Let me clear my throat was an early song I remember. This was very fun to listen too and this made me enjoy music. This was similar to Ishmael as we both enjoyed this kind of music helping me learn more english like him.

Part A: I learned people in Africa listen to the same music as me. Also I learned the group Rapper Delight.
Part B: My earliest experiences that I can remember was listening to country. My mom and sister use to listen to it a lot I remember listening to Carrie Underwood a lot. My music experiences were different than Ishmael. He listened to rap and hip-hop and I listened to country. But now I listen to rap and I don't listen to country anymore.

Part A: I learned the type of music they had back then. I also learned how they liked that type of music and how it interested them. I connect with Ishmael because he likes the music he listens too. Even though I don't like one group of music I still like music and will listen to it.

Part B: My early experience with music is basic really and my dad always tried to get me into rock music. And Im not really sure what music actually connected to me and were meaning full. I think mine was way different then Ishmael’s because I listen to about everything and I don't really like one certain type of music at a time. My opinions change thought my life on what music I like.

PART A:

The first thing I learned is how Beah was able to have access to listen to music with English lyrics. I also thought it was interesting how much rap music has changed over the years. The rap music Beah listened to is very different compared to what most people listen to now. I connect with the lyrics to a song called Salvation Song by the Avett Brothers. The lyrics in the song talk about the importance of keeping your faith and family a priority. One of the main themes in the song that is brought up time and time again talks about doing the right thing and standing up for truth and what you believe in. All of those are things that I value.

PART B:

My dad listens to a lot of classic rock and 80s music, so since I was young I’ve been a fan of songs from both of those genres. One of the first songs my dad played that I remember really liking was Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears For Fears. I remember driving around town and hearing that playing in the car. My music experiences were different than Ishmael’s because the music I like was introduced to me by my family. One of my mom’s sisters was very influential in the music tastes I have now. Like my dad, she listened to a lot of 80s music and classic rock, but she also listens to other music too. One band she recommended to me was a group called The Avett Brothers. The band is based out of Concord, North Carolina, which is where my mom grew up. The band is a much bigger deal now, but I remember going to small concerts around the state with my mom, my aunt, and cousins before they were popular. Their sound has changed over the years but I can honestly say that there is not a single song of theirs that I do not like. They are my all time favorite band not just because they have a good sound, but also because I have a sentimental attachment to their music from listening to them with my cousins. A lot of their songs deal with deeper themes than the pop music I would hear on the radio.
