MY ARMS ARE TIRED

I see a woman 
 holding a sign:
 "My Arms Are Tired 
 From Holding This Sign 
 for Fifty Years!"

which is a sign for me
 to walk over
 and offer to hold it 
 with her.

SO THIS IS HOW YOU FELT

So this is how you felt
 when the horse wasn't yours
 when you stood by the track
 in the fog, in the cold, making clouds
 digging hands deep in coat
 watching us 
 gallop past.

This is how you felt
 she was mine in her stall,
 lowered head while I groomed
 as I whispered
 and she chewed
 back leg cocked, 
 swishing tail.

This is how you felt in the cold,
 watching her, watching me
 you were out
 looking in.
