I throughly enjoyed the Age of Anxiety written by Leonard Bernstein. I felt very connected to it and the way the music shifts from light tones to very heavy and dark at times as well. They all come from different backgrounds. Bernstein was so inspired with this poem that he wrote music trying to depict the same sense of community. "Bernstein immediately identified the poem's potential as a symphonic subject and set to work obsessively during his few free moments, completing the symphony within a year" (Program notes). I was very surprised I had such a great time. I enjoyed listening to the music and having to analyze it. i connected with the Age of Anxiety, without reading the program notes. I thought it actually depicted a anxiety attack very well. The difference of the low sounds for a few minutes and then it would get dark and loud showing how sometimes you feel that you cannot escape it. The Opus 100 was also great.
