It is amazing how having a positive mindset of our students can help them go so far. It is such a simple thing, but when put to the test it can be quite hard to have a positive mindset 100% of the time. However, I will try my best and will keep making the conscious effort to stay positive :)

1. Having a positive outlook is very important, especially during negative situations such as the current one we're in. Likewise, we can apply it to our classroom management whereby we'll always look at the positive aspect of our students even if they always behave in a negative manner.
2. As teachers, we must always have backup plans in place. For instance, being familiar with the use of SLS for any situations like these. This is especially important as technology is widespread in the current day and age.

My takeaways:
1. Find the positive in everything. Even though the situation now may not be the most ideal for everyone, it was nice to see that we can all somehow stay positive by choosing to see the positive side of things (e.g. more time spent with family, more time for self etc.)
2. Know your learners even when planning HBL/SLS lessons. In fact, it is all the more important to know exactly what the students are going through in order to best plan for their learning/needs during this time.

This time given to us is a rare time and its heartening to hear people saying that they have more time to themselves and are able to bond more with their families. It is not often that we are given chances like these and I'm glad that everyone is staying positive in these times.

2. Marva Collins reminds us that positive affirmation of kids works better than punishment. She understood that her learners came from impoverished communities and have been "outcasted" by society due to their inability to keep up in mainstream schools. She constantly reminded these kids that if no one saw their worth, she did and she believed they could achieve much more.

We have time to take a breather and be appreciative of what we have. Furthermore, as student teachers, we have a chance to observe how to conduct lessons virtually.
2. I also have a deeper appreciation for teachers who are hustling to make lessons online impactful and engaging for their students. I am also appreciative towards my CT who is busy with HBL but still ensures that I am learning through this and guides me on coming up with activities for her class.

Repeating positive affirmations will inculcate a positive mindset. Once you repeat it enough, you will start to believe in those positive traits of yourself and show them in your actions.

1) Its amazing how we all have a positive mindset despite these uncertain times. We focus on the good (even when we have to go back to work for some of us). It was heartwarming to hear many of us are able to spend more time with our family and pets. Covid-19 os probably some sort of blessing in disguise for some of us.
2) One of the quotes that stood out to me from Marva Collins is “Don’t try to fix the students, fix ourselves first. The good teacher makes the poor student good and the good student superior.” Teachers having a positive attribute is once again highlighted! Stay positive! :D

1. It is important for teachers to empathise with their students in order to understand their needs and plan lessons that can meet those needs. Being able to assist students for HBL in school has been very eye-opening. I discovered how students think and the challenges they face when attempting the various tasks. Some students struggle with understanding instructions and navigating the pages and games. Hence, when designing online packages for students, the teacher must be aware of who needs more help and tries ways to support them or to simplify processes.
2. I belive that there's always wisdom in everything that happens. In this case, this covid situation has made us appreciate things more that we may have taken granted for. Things as simple as visiting our elderly and playing at the playground are being missed now. People also tend to say that they don't have time to do things such as reading a book and reflecting on self and life because of our busy schedule. Now is the time to catch up on ourselves and our loved ones within the same household!
