Culturally Relevant Teaching (CRT) what it is

Culture is meant to be recognized, shared, respected, and celebrated. CRT is recognizing that your students come from many different backgrounds and approaching them in a way that is respectful to their culture. Culture diversities can be religious beliefs, ethnic backgrounds, SES (socio-economic status) to name a few. if a teacher come into the situation understanding cultural differences or willing to learn about them, then the teacher can incorporate different relevent cultures into their teaching.

Ignoring, excluding, disrespecting, and judging someone based on their culture is NOT CRT! Explicit bias has no place in the world let alone in the classroom. While it is nearly impossible to come to the table without bias because we are human we can make an informed decision regarding the implicit bias we inevitably will have.

Black students are frequently exposed to microaggressions. if we are aware of our own personal implicit bias, we are more able to address them, invite students and teachers to give feedback on our teaching to make us aware of different bias's we might have towards students.
