Janet Raynor's goals for this research study were to examine the attitudes and viewpoints that parents, students, teachers, and others involved had towards girls' education and educated girls in Bangladesh. It also aims to examine the attitudes and viewpoints of the Female Stipend Program (FSP) and the program's affects on social attitudes.

I feel that the closest paradigm to this study is the Interpretivist or Constructivist paradigm.

According to Morrison (2007) this paradigm is one in which social actors negotiate meanings about their activity in the world. Social reality therefore consists of their attempts to interpret the world. It is also one in which educational research is conducted with people. Educational research needs to be grounded in people's experience. For interprevtivists, reality is a construct that people understand in different ways (Morrison, 2007).

Raynor uses this research study to interpret and understand what perspectives different members of a society have on girls' education and the FSP. She also uses the study to find the meaning of girls' education according to different members society. Using the different research methods, Raynor has to interpret meaning and feelings during interviews and from the questionnaires. Morrison (2007) also states that an implication of this paradigm is that researchers must be aware that the accounts that participants give in another language may be misrepresented or distorted by the researcher. Raynor mentions that some of her interviews were given with an interpreter.

Multiple local and specific "constructed" realities.

Raynor has done background research on the education of girls' in Bangladesh and the attitudes (particularly by men) towards it, and the perceptions of what women can do once they are educated. So I think Raynor came into this study with multiple realities concerning the different perspectives on girls' education.

Created findings - researcher is a "passionate participant" within the world being investigated.

Raynor worked in education in Bangladesh for 12 years before this study and had regular contact with people connected or affected by the FSP and was familiar with different discussions and attitudes towards the FSP, whether supportive or not.

In this paradigm researchers are also participants, in that they are part of the research topic they investigate. Not only does their work impact upon research participants but participants impact upon researchers (Morrison, 2007).
