The Peace of Paris ended the French and Indian War. The British gained control of mainland North America east of the Mississippi River.

Parliament put new trade implements in place, including taxing coffee, textiles, etc. The Royal Navy also patrolled the coast during trading.

The Stamp Act helped pay British troops stationed in the colonies. The stamps required colonists to pay taxes.

After Britain imposed the Townshend Duties in 1767, the colonists began to riot more. Britain then sent over more troops to help settle the unrest.

After a shot rang out, British soldiers fired their guns at civilians. When the shots ended, 5 civilians died and tensions were even higher than before.

The East India Company gained a monopoly off the tea being sold. This sparked protests and boycotts like the Boston Tea Party in December of 1773.

Congress put a halt to the slave trade in light of the anti-British protests.

This was looked at as a key starting point in the revolution. 73 died and 200 were wounded or missing in action.

The address stated Britain would not give independence to the colonies.

Congress declared independence from Great Britain. The news was then spread through copies of the declaration.

The revolution began with a large scale uprise against French plantation owners by slaves who disagreed with the work and the way they were being treated

After a couple of years of slave unrest, France abolishes slavery in French colonies, creating a turning point in the revolution.

Toussaint Louverture, a former slave and military leader, emerges as a dominant figure in the revolution. He first sides with the Spanish who controlled some part of the country, then with Napoleon when he rose to power.

Louverture defeated both Spanish and British forces. He strengthened his control and the economy, as well as drafting a constitution that gave full freedom to the colony.

Napoleon wanted to regain power over Saint-Domingue, a main city. He sends the military over from France to reinstate slavery, capture Louverture, and bring him back to France.

French forces are beaten in the battle of Crete-a-Pierrot, marking a turning point in the revolution.

French forces leave Saint-Domingue as they suffered terrible losses including the death of General Leclerc.

Jean-Jacques Dessalines declared the independence of Haiti, marking the birth of the first independent black republic and the second independent nation in the Americas after the United States.

The American Army claimed a victory in Saratoga, New York. Throughout the battle, Washington's men took a beating because of the cold and harsh environments.

The last major battle of the American Revolution, helped the movement towards the peace treaty.

The Treaty of Paris was signed, giving control to Americans and the country. An official end to the American Revolution.
