This is a very general website that has done the work for you and collected all the mutual aid groups and put them all in one place that is easy to navigate. Creating a guide and support the vulnerable in the communities with local organizations. This website is easily navigated starting with the four basics when you first enter: what is mutual aid, looking to connect, looking for your local mutual aid group, and need resources to support your community. Without this finding the mutual aid you need might not be as accessible and as easily found.

What Mutual Aid Can Do During a Pandemic

People coming together, establishing informal networks, to help and fulfill the needs of those around them has able to meet the needs of so many people during the pandemic. All happening while "socially distancing" and. ore and more people begin to feel isolated. one quote that I felt connected best to the class and to mutual aid and the pandemic the best was, "'There are two ways that this can go for us,' Ocasio-Cortez said on the call. 'We can buy into the old frameworks of, when a disaster hits, it’s every person for themselves. Or we can affirmatively choose a different path. And we can build a different world, even if it’s just on our building floor, even if it’s just in our neighborhood, even if it’s just on our block.'" This was a powerful statement as this whole class the lingering question of are people selfish or selfless. Mutual aid especially in the time of the pandemic where there is a great amount of it happening is a great was of people showing other people they care and that they are going to take action instead of waiting around waiting for someone of power to take control.

Typically mutual aid is heavy on relationships and this is where mutual aid in the pandemic is going to be different than the mutual aid that might have happened during the fires we experienced. Zoom and technology have played a huge roll in allowing mutual aid to continue to happen even while "flattening the curve."

During these times not only are we seeing adults stepping in and helping others, but we have also seen children stepping up and creating change. In the article it states that, "neighbors are best situated to help neighbors" so people of all ages are finding ways to help other. Depending on their age might gauge what they are doing.

I found it so cool that this article brought up the book "A Paradise Built in Hell" and how it argues that disasters leave systems to fail leading people to step up in ways that we may have never seen before. As we read this in this class and I could really understand this section.

Lastly, I think the distinction was best stated in the article when it read, "A distinctive quality of mutual aid, in general contrast with charity and state services, is the absence of conditions for those who wish to receive help." This article got down to some vert specific points as well as some more broad and general ideas, but overall was an amazing read.

This is another sourse that contains mutual aid resources. This not only includes mutual aid for those who are needing it, but also those looking to help and be a part of a mutual aid group. at first it gives general mutual aid resources, then it divides the resources into bioregions and cities in the Bay Area, and then specific requests. These include everything from supply distributions, hosing, food, emotional support and running errands. They link the site and then give a short explanation of what it is.

Mutual aid is neighbors helping neighbors by providing resources. These resources can be everything from health care and medicine to food and shelter. This became prevalent in the 20th century during very trying times. mutual aid started as a place where people could leave their information volunteering their time to help those in need. As time went on and things like this grew they started moving to bigger data base sights that are better organized.

If one is looking to join and volunteer with a mutual aid network the odds are that there is one that is near by you could connect with, but if you are looking to start one, there's a few important things to keep in mind. Most importantly is to think of whom you are wanting to help and what platform would best suit those people. Other than that it is just important to not be afraid to change, adapt, and ask for help.
