What is the current state of affairs in Afghanistan?
After months of often confrontations with government forces, the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA, also known as the Taliban) took control of Afghanistan in August. Thousands of people had perished and many more had been injured by the time the combat concluded.

Following the takeover, major international donors halted help to Afghanistan. The situation is still in flux today. Chronic insecurity has wreaked havoc on daily life and key services, most notably medical care.

The healthcare system is on the verge of collapsing, already under-resourced, understaffed, and under strain from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Across the country, hospitals and clinics have been forced to close, and those that remain open are facing serious shortages of drugs, equipment, and supplies.

When the public hears about an MSF field mission, it is almost always the medical volunteers who receive the most media attention. However, there are a number of non-medical volunteers who assist the field mission run well. Logisticians are in charge of ensuring that the medical component of a mission has all it requires, from security to vehicle maintenance to food and power. They may be engineers or foremen, and they also aid in the establishment of treatment centres and the supervision of local personnel. Water/sanitation professionals, who are usually skilled engineers in the disciplines of water treatment and management, and financial/administration/human resources experts are among the non-medical personnel assigned to field missions. The money donated usually rollout the necessities rather than their acts of services.
