All of these activities help students clear up misconceptions and build on prior knowledge. This creates a deeper understanding for students. By sharing this through discourse, students can assist each other and help address weaknesses. In the video, we were able to see the students engaging in specific conversation pertaining to the text. According to the video, the teacher may explicitly teach the academic language necessary for that day and also let students share either their own answer or a partner's which leads to an increase in self efficacy, ultimately leading to an increase in student achievement. I think this is great because students know that their ideas and thoughts are valued in the classroom; they also gain a deeper understanding of the text by engaging in discourse.
