My own interpretation of 'Originality' is very open. To me it means anything which has now been previously done in that exact way. For example a short film which follows the exact same story board is not original however if you use the same narrative concept and story line then that is 'originality' in my opinion.

Music Video - River [4]

This music video is based around domestic abuse. This could be a great format to follow because I have created a music video before and found I had the technical skills to make it seem professional. A big thing for me is the equipment and locations you use in a piece and with a music video you can make it seem innovative just by using a variety of equipment which is why I like it so much; I think River does that amazingly. The high budget effects give it tension using metaphorical devices which I think is what makes it so unique. It plays with the sympathy that the audience has for the characters and this creates an emotional bond with them. this is what I would like to attempt to follow in the final piece because it is more enjoyable when you are emotionally attached.
In this video they have a very visually cool shot involving a mirror (04:30) which I think would be good to recreate. In river they are arguing and this could follow the same theme for our own video.
Also scattered throughout the video they use Strobe/projector footage to give a disorientated effect which I love; that effect is given to the audience which is very effective.
There is another inspiring collection of shots in river which use the handheld effect which once make the audience feel present and involved. Lastly there is a FaceTime scene which I would love to use in my own piece because it follows the same type of concept as all the other ideas I have had.

This short film is about a day in London. The key thing which I think is strong about this piece is how basic the shots are. There aren't many which I think really stand out but its the meaning behind the shots which I love. for example at the very start there (00:01) is a few establishing shots which seem very calm and chilled and then by part way through when it turns negative (09:36) then you see the locations in a different way. This is done through camera shake and distorted angles which will play with the audiences emotions.

It is a Music video for a rap song which has a twist of a short film too. The whole piece the creators are trying to get you to become attached to the characters. Then by the end of the piece there is a massive twist in story line and they leave the audience feeling vulnerable. I think this is something that I will consider recommending for my group as it is a very unique selling point that would differ our piece from others. this video and more specifically the ending are have stuck in my head and I have shown plenty of people the video just because I was so impressed and this is the effect I aspire to achieve.

We went to The Hatfield Forest which is about a 20 minute drive. The main reason we went here was to look at the location and to see what type of shots we could get and I am very impressed with how they have ended up. One of the key things that i realized is the health and safety restrictions of the location. As Hatfield Forest has a huge lake onsite we need to be careful for anybody taking any risks with either there safety or the equipment. To be sure that everything is safe i am going to ensure that a detailed risk assessment is completed with all dangers highlighted and an action plan for if the worse happens. The entire way through the shoot I was trying to keep in mind that we will be using couples in shots and with this in mind i ensured I as many shots which could show love and/or separation.

From these shots today, I tried to bare in mind what symbolism I was trying to portray. We did some shots where to people are sat on a bench and then walk separate ways; this type of shot will be used during an argument or breakup scene. Another concept i have thought about is the way that i plan on using the background and setting of the shot to portray what is happening to the couple. for example i will have a nice open landscape shot with them speaking for the positive shots but then on the contrasting scene use a cut down forestry area to symbolism the dead love. interestingly in the far background both shots will have the same lake but with different perspectives. I am happy with the way this looks but I have learnt some very important things like the framing of the shots on the bench need to show more expression. and also the following shots need to use a handheld rig or the Ronin to get a more smooth and clean piece. Overall i am very thankful that we did this test shoot because I think its been very beneficial to my camera skills and makes me feel more comfortable and confident in shooting any scenes at the location and with the primed lenses. If there is one thing that i would change next time i do a test shoot like this i will make sure we take a reflector with us; there was a specific style of shot on the dock where you could see the other side of the actors but if we had a reflector then it would have looked a lot more professional and clean cut. by doing this shot it will allow me to be more time effective during production meaning i am able to get more of a variety of shots using the saved time which will inevitably help me complete.

Corridor - 10/04/2018

This experimentation was inspired by the Eminem music video/short film 'framed' [7]. At 3:13 he is in the location of a corridor and whilst watching this video it really inspired me and showed me how smart of a location that is. when you have wide and vast shots with loads of background to look at you rarely look at the foreground which although can be smart at times doesn't massively work with the concept we are currently looking into we need some intense and intimate shots which are best done in this type of tight location. I had a big idea during the shoot which I plan on using in the FMP piece. basically a couple walk down the corridor and then when they cover the camera with their walking then a person sits at the end of the corridor so that once they get further down the walkway then single person gets reviled. The main thing which i have learnt from this test shoot is the need for solid actors; whilst trying to use me and Gina you realise there isn't any chemistry therefore the relationship on camera seems fake which obviously isn't what we want at all.

This was one of our first experimentation sessions. I say a short film named 'Can Cowboys Cry' [8] which uses light like i have never seen before. This is the level of skill i aspire to have in respect of lighting so I thought I would have an experiment in the studio. After some playing we released that I should change the LED lights to fog lights to get a more professional look and this after this it looked exactly how i was hoping it would. very soon after getting the lights out i also remembered part of 'Hall Of Fame' [9] 01:30 - where they have similar lighting to what we were doing. I realised exactly how hard it is to achieve and perfect lighting.

Today we went out with the primed lens to get a solid understanding of how it works, what the advantages are and just to increase my confidence in general with this piece of equipment. I found it very useful because now I feel like I have a good understanding of how to use it which is very good because it will leave my FMP looking very professional. The one thing that I did learn from this shoot was the importance of having a still hand or tripod when using the primed lens. If not you end up with either blurry or out of focus shots which isn't what you want at all. to avoid this you have to keep as still as possible and if you can then have a wall to stabilize with. thankfully when i do my FMP i will be using the Ronan to get these types of shot so it will be okay in the end.
