Can we measure happiness?

I think that happiness is a state of mind. As such, it is produced and regulated by our thoughts, perception of our reality and our inherited psychological-blueprint. This state of mind moves within a kind of scale which we feel as a beginning of happiness when it is at the bottom of the scale or as if it were at the top of it when we feel the maximum of happiness possible in our self. So, of course, we tend to measure our level of happiness, in a way, daily. Moreover, serotonin is thought to be the neurotransmitter in charge to contribute to feelings of happiness. Depending the quantity of such neurotransmitter in our body, we will feel more or less happiness. Thus, chemically speaking, happiness can be measured.
