In early-20th-century France, when society generally considered women to be women and men to be men, Lucy Schwob decided she would rather be called Claude Cahun.
It was her way of protesting/going against gender and sexual norms. She thrived on ambiguity and chose a name, Claude, that in French could refer to either a man or a woman. She took the last name from her grandmother Mathilda Cahun.
Cahun (ca-AH) made ambiguity a theme in a lifelong exploration of gender and sexual identity as a writer and photographer. Decades after her death, she has a growing following among art historians, feminists and people in the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer community.

the room in which i decided to display my work made it a lot more immersive. i wanted the audience to engage with it and. understand more about rave culture and how it feels during the experience. i used LED coloured lighting to fill the room, like the type of lighting you get at a rave. i also brought my speaker and played drum and bass. before entering the room where my work was displayed, i asked people for their IDs to make it feel like they are entering a rave. i shared this room with zulfa, and we collectively made a box filled with items for people to interact with. inside the box i put a an old digital camera and some sunglasses. i watched throughout the gallery how people interacted with the box, and it a lot of people were hesitant to touch it as they werent sure whether or I wish I took a lot more images on the crowd as I really liked how these turned out; similar to image 2 and 11 in the collection above. to use the application which will be great for the future. i really enjoyed the process of making this. i decided to create this zine to make my project tangible and more interactive. i included all quite posed, but i still wanted to include them in some way, so i thought in the zine was the appropriate way to do this.
