During our time at MHC and in the nearly 20 years since we graduated, I am consistently impressed by how intelligent, accomplished, caring and amazing our classmates are.


The best memories are not the big events, but the small moments...walks around campus, movie nights in the dorms, random M&Cs. The silly conversations, constant encouragement and unending support made MHC MoHome.

Here are three pieces of advice you can use right now as you are embarking on your life beyond the gates.


  1. Office hours are not just for asking specific questions about assignments. They are your opportunity to talk to your professors about whatever interests you. Take advantage of this.


  1. "Tell me about yourself" is an interview question. They are asking about your professional experience, not your family and your hobbies.


  1. The goal of an interview is not to show that you are intelligent, sober, and willing to work. The goal of an interview is to show that you are the absolute BEST person for the job.


I sure wish someone had told me these things while I was still at Mount Holyoke. My career probably would have gone a lot better.


P.S. 20-year-old me: It's not as bad as it sounds. Within the next 20 years you are going to accomplish amazing things. You are just going to experience some terrible misadventures along the way. Don't give up. It's all worth it in the end.

I felt like the I was always wanting to get to the next thing and so I rushed through many experiences. It's only been as I've gotten older that I've really embraced the idea of treasuring the journey. I try to take time to regularly reflect and to slow down.

ACTIVITY: Explore NARM Membership

This year I learned that a museum membership I have is a part of The North American Reciprocal Museum (NARM) Association. Participating memberships can gain you access to 1,512 art museums and galleries, historical museums and societies, botanical gardens, children’s museums, zoos, and more. I can’t wait to explore more museums in 2026!

APP: ScreenZen & Brick

Like a lot of people, I’m trying to be more conscious of my phone usage and screen time, especially during evening hours with my family. ScreenZen is a free app that lets you block specified apps during whatever timeframe you choose, reminding you with a message of your choice if you tap into them. And if you need a harder guardrail, Brick does the same thing but with an actual little block you stick up somewhere in your home, that you need to physically get up and tap to unlock your blocked apps

PODCAST: The Rest is History

Whenever I need a mental break from the current news, I’ve been enjoying this long-form podcast hosted by two British historians. They take several episodes to cover one subject, be it a singular figure or event, so you get all the details and a thoughtful analysis of why it matters. Plus, the hosts are funny and great storytellers!
