I am that kind of person who learn more easily using visual tools. It is a little bit embarrassing though I must confess that everytime I go to the Uk I feel excited when I can find those typical books for kids called something like "My first 1000 words" in a bookshop or supermarket. These books might seem too basic but the truth is I enjoy them a lot. I always find new words. For me it is an amusing way of remembering and memorize English vocabulary. From my point of view, these books are quite helpful because they allow you to find out the meaning of a word not only at a glance but in an orderly manner because the words appear classified by topics such as food, animals or clothes. In addiction to this, I recently discovered the website Opdome.com which is a picture dictionary in English where you can also learn how words are pronouncied.

To be honest, I am pretty bad at remembering and memorizing words and stuff, so I am going to share with you my daily routine plan to study.
1. Wake up early in the morning at the same time and prepare yourself a balanced breakfast including vitamins (orange juice or some fruits) and calcium (milk, cheese or yogurt). Try to avoid pastries, coffee and fats).
2. Study at least 3 hours before lunch, resting with breaks no more than 15/20 minutes long.
3. Have lunch, calmly, don't be stressed if you haven't finished something that you should have to. Then you just lie down in your sofa for 30 minutes before going back to study (don't take a <del>nap</del>!)
Take it easy, it is your time to relax.
4. Return to work: change your place to study if you were not concentrate at all in the morning and try to study as good as you can. Prepare a snack in case you are starving (your brain also consumes energy) and drink too much water (avoid energy drinks).
5. When it is all over, go back home and do not forget to do physical exercise: gym, running, cycling,... whatever. It is important to drop any stress you may have during the day to be ready for tomorrow.
6. Have a shower, have a light dinner and I go to bed, you deserve it!

Best regards!
Gonzalo

Here are some tips to help you memorise English vocabulary:

- Write the words once and again in a piece of paper. Handwriting increases neuronal activity and improves your photographic memory.
- Making up some stories or mnemonics comes in handy to learn lists of adjectives, nouns or verb patterns.
- Sparing the rod is over! Have a go at learning and having fun at the same time using apps like Memrise or Duolingo. It'll take you only 15 minutes a day to prevent your vocabulary from fading in your memory.

Last but not least, a recommendation to commit information to memory: Don't waste your neurones trying to remember absolutely everything. As David Allen says in his book "Getting Things Done", release your mind from recalling those memory-consuming routine tasks. Instead, let your mobile or agenda do this job for you and your brain will be able to focus on retaining as much data as you need.

Carmen

Studying abroad is one of my best tips but I know that right now it's not the best option nor is it accessible to everyone but surrounding yourself with an English speaking environment helps a lot. Another good tip is to listen and read in English in movies with subtitles and in your favorite books that you can see in writing new vocabulary and how it is used, also now with the technology it is very easy to acquire these materials, like netflix, amazon prime, etc.
Finally, I share with you two applications that I usually use when I go by train or bus (free time) to improve all the skills and learn vocabulary: ABA English and BBC learning english.
I also share you a very interesting youtube channel of expressions that we usually say wrong.
Regards,
Sabrina.

I normally use two strategies to memorize new vocabulary in English and the other languages I'm studying.

The first strategy to memorize new vocabulary I use is to write a “vocabulary notebook”, in which I make a list of the new words I learn by categories or word groups, and I try to make sentences or small texts with them, in order to put them in context. In this notebook I also include mind maps or other visual tools.

The second strategy is to put sticky notes in different rooms of my home. With this, I can memorize more easily the new vocabulary because I see it every time I'm in these rooms.

Maybe these strategies are simple, but in my case are effective.

Patricia

I used it all year long to practise vocabulary yet having many amusing times. The app I'm talking about is Quizlet. I 'd post the link to it if I knew how to do it...sorry.

Appart from that, every time I come through a new word or expression I first look it up in the diccionary to check its meaning, then I try to picture it creating some bizarre image of the word in my mind. Finally I imagine situations in which I'd use it and I saiy some sentences containing the word.
And of course, don't ever forget to check every new word you read pronunciation.
Virginia

I think that it is really hard to get new vocabulary or use new expression and not clingging to the same construction again and again.
Besides I teach english so I try to learn the most amount of vocabulary that I can, so I found a girl in youtube that apart from explaining grammar, she also films videos about how to avoid some expressions that we have embraced.
Here is the link of her last video: (184) Stop Saying "THANK YOU!" Use these alternatives to SOUND LIKE A NATIVE - YouTube
Take a look I think is really interesting.
However the way I am used to study new words and expressions is learning them by hard and then trying to using them when I speak.

ANA CARRIÓN
