Art integration in education is the practice that incorporates art in the form of making, creating, tinkering, performing, and/or presenting into the typical practices of education like math, grammar, and science. There is a stigma that is beginning to overturn that art isn't as important as these other common core fields, but that's just not true! Art has a connection to these fields and it's harder to avoid art than to include it!

Art Integration can look like a lot of things! Some examples that might come to mind are songs, dancing, painting, and drawing- but Art Integration can be so much more too! It can be paper making, Lego building, play writing, outfit designing, and room designing too!

Art Integration is important for many reasons! Incorporating arts in various formats helps students grow in common core areas like math and language! It inspires creativity and problem solving skills too! Art integration allows for children to connect with their emotions in a physical way as well. In addition to everything else Art Integration is FUN and makes the learning process more enjoyable for children as well! Especially when it's a particularly tough subject to understand. When art can be associated with it, the material has the opportunity to make a lasting impact. These are only a few of the reasons why Art Integration is important!

3 takeaways from this semester:

1) No matter what grade I end up teaching, Art Integration has a place in that grade level's education.
2) Art does not just belong in art or music rooms, but can and SHOULD be present in every classroom no matter the subject.
3) Valuing Art doesn't mean that arithmetic and language should be valued any less. Instead, these fields should work together and be integrated, not just kept separate.
