The New England, Middle, and Southern colonies all differ based on their cultures, ideas, and beliefs. The Separatists and Puritans from England make up most of the New England Colonies. They had a significant influence on the governments in the New England colonies. They formed a religion-based government in several New England colonies. New England did not have favorable soil so they did not focus too much on agriculture. Many Native Indians have taught the settlers in the Northeast about the food crops like corn and potatoes. The economy was based around fishing and shipbuilding. The Southern colonies were made up by Anglicans and Baptists but they didn't influence the government like the Puritans did.The Southern colonies had more slaves because of the good agricultural climate and the plantation system which meant plantation owners needed more workers. Unlike the New England colonies, Southern colonies were less urban and farms were more common. The crops in the South were mainly tobacco and rice. The Middle Colonies had several religious groups unlike the other colonies. They had Quakers, Lutherans, and Calvinists. An important part of the Middle Colonies was the ports and river systems they had that helped ships go in and out from. The Middle colonies were more diverse and were like a combination of both the North and the South. All settlers came to their colonies for different reasons, the Northern colonies consisted of Puritans and religious reformers who left to seek a new way of life. The Middle colonies were very diverse and settlers from several European countries came to the Middle Colonies. The Southern colonists consisted of settlers who sought new material that gave wealth to them and England. What makes the colonies distinct is the type of workers there. The New England colonies had very skilled craftsmen that focused on shipbuilding, the Middle colonies had fishers, merchants, and farmers, while the Southern colonies had mainly farmers that focused on agriculture. Life in the North is closely associated to religion while life in the South is more rural and rigorous and the Middle Colonies combined aspects of the two to create diverse colonies. All these different aspects and beliefs create a unique society in the New England, Middle, and Southern colonies.
