Statoliths act as marbles at the bottom of an empty jar; moving to the bottom whichever way it is tilted. The statoliths act as gravity receptors and alert the other cells that they are at the bottom, so the other types of cells can go to their respective positions- the shoot goes up and the root cells go down.

How does temperature affect a bean's growth?

When temps are too low, the enzyme activity decreases. As temps increase, so does the enzyme activity. Although, when the temps get too high, the enzymes activity will deminish, and the enzymes will denature. This connect to bean growth because beans need warm temperatures to grow, but not too high. Enzymes will not be effective in facilitating the chemical reactions that allow the bean plant to grow if they are denatured, which can happen if temperatures are extreme or if the environment is too acidic.
