It featured an organized look with its evenly spaced trees and nicely curved roads. Many of these features can be matched to the city of Santa Clarita, but there are still some very distinct differences. Some parts of Santa Clarita are similar to Levittown because of its neighborhood aesthetic, emphasis on consumerism, and low crime rate. Like Levittown, the houses in Stevenson Ranch have multiple duplicates in the same area. Although it seems the Levitt houses were more similar as one source claims some people got "lost among identical rows of houses along identical street blocks..."(Penn Kimball). Curved roads were also an essential part of Levittown's look, which also happens to appear in Stevenson Ranch's neighborhoods. Both have multiple city parks, schools, and shopping centers that all add to the suburban aesthetic. Many middle-class families who lived in Levittown, and places similar, valued consumer goods immensely. There was an underlying competition amongst families to have the newest and most improved televisions, refrigerators, or any other home appliances. Here in Santa Clarita, there are shopping centers on nearly every street with more varieties of stores than we need. About sixty-four percent of Santa Clarita are white, about thirty-one percent are Hispanic, and about twelve percent are Asian. Santa Clarita is definitely not the most diverse population ethnically, but it is sharply different from the exclusionary policies William Levitt who had a clause in the lease that stated the home couldn't " be used or occupied by any person other than members of the Caucasian race." Santa Clarita is home to people of a variety of incomes, this can be seen in the different levels of housing seen around Santa Clarita. Santa Clarita has every type of housing from smaller apartments to multimillion dollar homes. This contrasts to Levittown's "one-class community." According to Penn Kimball, the Levittown crime rate was "phenomenally low." Not much is different in Santa Clarita. Our city is currently one of the top ten safest cities in America.
