<title>The OI says that in Spanish the subject is optional, but when i was taught Spanish by a native Spanish speaker, we were taught that while it is optional most of the time, it is not always. For example, I want to play can be either yo quiero jugar or just quiero jugar, while I want to play football, but he wants to go swimming has to be YO quiero jugar futbol, pero EL quiere nadar, because the subject is changing, and several other native Spanish speakers I&#39;ve spoke to have concurred on this, so I was just wondering how the OI hypothesis takes this into account. </title>
