Gerald Hutchinson Jr. started at PVHS at age 22. He taught Middle School and High School for 52 years. Mr. Hutchinson has taught, coached, be Rec Director, and AD for PVHS. Mr. Hutchinson has numerous awards for his work as AD, coaching, and at UMPI. Mr. Hutchinson has recently retired and is happy with his wife and family out on Cold Stream Lake with his fishing boat. Mr. Hutchinson is an amazing person, who should be recognized for his work.

The Beginning

"Oh my god, let me see... I taught Junior High math, I taught Junior High reading, I taught Junior High English. I taught High School math. The rest is coaching: in High School I coached the Wrestling team, I coached Boy's Soccer one year, and Girl's Softball."

"We didn't have soccer when I first came here, all you has was one soccer team and actually I started the Junior High program, I was the first coach."

8th Grade Trips

"What I used to do in the Junior High.. I called myself the "Unofficial 8th Grade Advisor." Every year, we'd cell popcorn at recess and I'd have dances and raise money. Then at the end of the year, we had a graduation for the 8th graders. We had a banquet with caps and with regular gowns. I took them all to Boston for a trip, on a Sears bus, I did that for years. Then they made me quit because ours was better then the High Schools."

Where We Play

"I guess as far as the fields go.. We built the shack out back on the Soccer field. We built both dug outs for Baseball, both dug outs for Softball. I built, me and Pat Lenard, built the entire Girl's Softball field."

The Teacher, The AD

"Oh teaching? There was nothing hard. As far as Ad, I think the hardest part was adjusting schedules around weather and stuff. And doing the fields.. That really did a number on my body. I didn't have a maintenance to take care of all the fields, it was myself."

"He's fantastic! That's why I, he's followed me. I was Rec Director, I hired him as a helper. He took over. When I was AD and I wanted an assist., I went to the super intendant and said "I want to hire Jeremy."

"My wife was very helpful. She, you know I didn't do much with the kids, she took care of all of that."

"Without her, I wouldn't of done it. She was the one saying it was time to get out, so I got out. She made the call or I'd be still doing it."
