-There's a ton of societal pressure to live the "American Dream" which is no longer possible for the average person without horribly damaging the environment and racking up hundreds of thousands of credit card debt. 
-Money doesn't truly make us happy. It's easy to become addicted to buying many things you don't need and we expect these possessions to make us happy, but when it doesn't we can only buy more until were left with nothing but the items we bought for no reason other than happiness we never got.
