12/12/04 Hello Mina, this strange glass rectangle fell out of the sky yesterday, and although I'm not sure what a "text message" is, I'm determined to know more about this phenomenon. Perhaps I could have an intern examine it, and take ninety-eight per cent of the credit. The device is remarkable, although I seem to only be capable of a few facets of it. It seems to be a mix of a telephone, a telegraph, a phonograph, a Kinetoscope or similar film device, an auditory recording device, a camera, and a journal. It cannot be connected to wires, so the telephone feature did not give me a chance to call you. I fed our telephone number to the small machine in order to send you a "text message." I do not know if it will work, as it seems to be slightly broken, and does only some actions of what is promised to happen. For example, on the musical feature, there must be millions of songs, most of which I have never heard of. Using the convenient "search" on the rectangle, I attempted to play a popular hit one might hear at a saloon, the "Maple Leaf Rag." An odd image appeared, showing type telling me I need an "internet connection." Until I can find one, I suppose I will see Joplin at the World's Fair instead. The photographs, however, are of extremely high quality. With the simple pressing of a button, it will show me an image with no distortion of any kind, in full color! I have found a photograph of a peacock fanning his feathers in search of a mate, which I chose to use as a "background image." We must converse later, my love, I must meet with friends soon. Goodbye.
