I think this because it lets citizens have the freedom of speech, or to be able to speak out against certain things. If the Bill of Rights did not included this amendment then the government would never know what bigger problems are that the government needs to change. It also includes the  freedom of religion which is also important because many arguments have come from having the same religon. The 1st amendment also includes freedom of the press. Freedom of the press is also important because if a presidental canidant is stealing money from banks the press may want people to know this and it could stop people for voting for a certain canidant.
