Role: As a woman in Panem(the community in which Katniss lives) she is expected to be a stereotypical house wife. But she is actually the brain stem of the family's stability. Her mom isn't fit to care for the family. So the mother's job is the reasoner.
Status symbols: One example would be how the district her community and family lives in which in the movie is district 12. I mention their district because of how poor this community is, dirt poor, most of the families in district 12 are just getting by with the skin of their teeth as coal miners. They are known as the lowest district in terms of money.
Katniss symbolizes a revolutionist in her community. This leads me to my last status symbol, the when Katniss heard Primm's name called from the bucket of names who one of which could be participating in the hunger games for their district, when this happened Katniss did something no one else had the guts to do, she said she "I volunteer as tribute in the games". This was almost a slap in the face to the government because it goes against the game's lasting tradition, pulling a random piece of paper out of the bucket and the names drawn would have to be in the hunger games. She also showed a sign of hope to her district when she said "If we burn, you burn with us!" this was because the capital(directed by President snow) was bombing the district's buildings and hospitals so she finally spoke for everyone and said basically if you do this to us, we will bring you down into the fire with us by bombing the capital.
Ascribed statuses: white(race), woman(gender).
Achieved Statuses: A hunter, a victor, a friend.
Master Status: The one status that trumps all of the others is her gender as a woman. In this book, their society is very prejudicial against women, they think that people like Katniss are so weak and simple minded. This is shown when the participants in the hunger games are practicing and putting on a show for the capital to see if they have what it takes to survive in the games. Katniss knows how everyone is watching but when it comes to Katniss' turn to show off, they laugh at her when she misses the head shot on a training dummy by an inch because "She is a woman and women are weak." After this happens, Katniss notices how they don't pay attention to her anymore, which makes her mad. This motivates Katniss to actually get their attention by shooting an arrow through an apple which is a longshot. This bias of the viewers proves to be so out of proportion when Katniss ends up hitting a bulls eye clean through the apple. This, if you can imagine was a big shock factor.
Role conflict: Katniss Everdeen is struggling with a number of external conflicts, including the fight to feed her family, the fight against the oppressive society in which she lives, and the fight against other competitors to survive during the Games.
Role strain: Katniss has a very hard time keeping up with the consistent expectations of her role to survive in the games when she has to worry about being surprised attacked if she lets her guard down when this role also requires her to maintain a good image and she is being watched by everyone.
Role Performance:
As a participant in the games, in specific scenes of the games she does the exact opposite of an ideal participant. She uses her athleticism, strength, courage, prowess with a bow-and-arrow, and has cool-headed reasoning. When struck with a stressful situations even life or death, she is calm and uses her reasoning to think and interpret positive outcomes to not only her advantage in order to win but what could benefit the damaged society she lives in. Here is one example. One of the traditions of the Hunger Games is to end up with one person out of all 24 participants 2 from each district. So it wouldn't be originally possible to end with 2 victors in the same district, but that was eventually announced as acceptable during the game. They did this because Katniss and Peeta's sponsor was previously a victor in the hunger games and advised them to change the rule. When the game was down to the last 3 players Katniss, Peeta and one other survivor, it became obvious that district 12 with Katniss and Peeta was going to win the capital announced that they have decided to take back their new rule and go back to the original rule for only 1 person to win not two. Which was not how Katniss wanted to end the game. That meant one of them had to kill the other. Hopefully you have bared with me this my explanation, because this is the moment where Katniss represents the opposite of an ideal player which is to do what they want but she doesn't. Instead she decides to push the capital's buttons and gets poisonous berries and her and Peeta both agree that they want to take their life to end the game that way. But, the capital finally gave in to them both winning. This cool-headed reasoning is the reason why she's the opposite of a ideal player. She does things for the sake of everyone and herself. By the two of them both eating those berries the game would have no victor which breaks the tradition of the games. It also most importantly shows the government that she doesn't follow rules that are ridiculous and isn't afraid to break the rules in order to help everyone.

Katniss also comforts Primm when she is sad or upset. Lastly as the older sister, Katniss is Primm's role model she gives her advice.
This status was ascribed because she didn't do anything to be this status, it was given to her.

Role: During the end of the first book in the hunger game, Katniss and Peeta discovered there was a spark for a possible relationship. They eventually kissed in the heat of the moment. When this was immediately seen by everyone, their sponsor who oversees their district participants created this whole drama that they were so in love, mostly for publicity and support from the capital towards district 12. But I also think their sponser did that for a shock factor in order to draw a lot of attention. They were expected to attend the meetings for the districts together to share their perspective on the relationship.
It's hard to say if this status was either given or forced onto them because they discovered their love for each other which suddenly became the real deal which it really wasn't, they were only just beginning to understand what they have with each other when their sponsor and everyone watching interpreted and forced the motion of them being a couple because of how they kissed.

She is a robin hood

Role: As someone who acts as the robin hood of her community she represents hope to her people, and a symbol of revolution. Katniss did not ask to be a revolutionary or a martyr. She participated in the Hunger Games to save her young sister, who was too weak to participate. However, Katniss was a part of the rebellion long before she even realized it. Katniss rebels against the capitol during the hunger games. While she isn’t exactly stealing from the rich and giving to the poor, she is working to take down the government in order to to help those in the poorer districts like her own. Robin Hood does, however, directly steal from the rich and give to the poor. While they go about helping people in different ways, they are still ultimately helping people.
This role is an example of an achieved status.
