In a typical year, I have perhaps 25% who are highly motivated and pumped about anything I throw at them. These students love to be pushed, and push me to keep them challenged. Around 50% are high achievers who are relatively organized and are very concerned with their GPAs, but not necessarily their "learning." The remaining 25% may struggle in some way, be it socially, academically, or both. Most of my sleepless nights concern this subset.

Where gifted ed falls short (in PA) is that it doesn't help students cope with their giftedness. Thinking differently isn't necessarily a good thing in a standardized world.
