Akhenaten ruled during the 18th Dynasty in the New Kingdom Era and was renowned for his radical change in religious beliefs of the people of Egypt as well as his ideas to cease all trades and diplomatic agreements with neighbouring countries at the time. He was estimated to have reigned between 1372 - 1337 BCE. No clear evidence has been provided towards how he died as not much evidence remains intact

Religious Policy

Akhenaten, unlike other Pharaohs, only believed that there was one God, the God he believed in was Aten, the sun disk, he rejected all other Gods of the Egyptian Pantheon and he ordered the destruction of the names and images of the original Egyptian Gods. He also moved the capital of Egypt from Thebes to Akhetaten (a newly established city where his religious movement began). Akhenaten presented himself as the only high priest of Aten. During his reign, his religious beliefs were accepted, but upon his death, his beliefs were dismantled and Egypt returned to their original Gods.

Akhenaten’s building policy reflected his Religious beliefs, where he turned from Polytheism to Monotheism. While he mainly worked on building temples and palaces in Akhetaten to worship Aten, his one and only God, he also overlooked the construction of The Kings House, a building where he and his family resided, it reflected his status at the time. Not everything was solely focused around Aten, he also arranged the building of residential districts for priests, officials and common people

Not much is known about what laws Akhenaten had in place, as later Pharaohs had tried to erase all knowledge of his Reign as he radically changed Egyptian beliefs. While not much has been proved, we can most likely assume that some economic and social laws were implemented reflecting his religious beliefs as well as laws that made sure that he was the only one to be in contact with Aten, his one and only God.

Akhenaten, with his radicalised beliefs, ceased all trade with the rest of the foreign area during his rule and upon his death, the diplomatic ties were re-established with their foreign neighbours. Not much else is known about Akhenaten's sudden change in diplomatic relationships with foreign countries at this time, as many different sources claim different things
