My current research:

I'm Jasmine and I work in PHD as a Postdoc on an ESRC funded project called CALMS with Emily and Bonny.

The project is looking at bidirectional associations between parents and children. More specifically, we are interested in how parents and children mutually influence one another over time and what factors might influence this.

My PhD:

My PhD research was very different to what I am doing now. I looked at how emotional memories changed with age and whether there were neural differences responsible for this. One of my favourite parts of my PhD was recruiting older adults as they loved to sit and chat while drinking tea and eating biscuits. I also learned how to use an MRI machine to scan people's brains.

What you might not know about me:

I'm a mum to a 3 year old called Ellie and I own two sausage dogs (who are actually brothers). I like to go on long walks, bake bread, read psychological thrillers and I try to crochet.

My research is all about understanding family relationships and how home and school environments associate with children and young people's social and behavioural adjustment and mental health.

I love working with both academics and practitioners to bridge the gap between research and real-world practice.

As well as being a developmental psychologist, I'm also a behavioural geneticist. This means I'm fascinated by how individual differences in children's genetics, combined with complex family dynamics, influence their adjustment.

What you might not know about me:

I love all puzzles – cryptic crosswords, Tetris, Sudoku, Hanjie, Wordle, Semantle, Nerdle, Quordle. My superpower is jigsaws. As a child I used to do them picture-side down. 

My research aims to understand why some children develop behavioural problems and others do not, considering the role of environmental factors, especially the parenting they receive and features of wider (school and neighbourhood) contexts. I have been at the IOE since 2009 when I started my PhD.

I am originally from the USA where I grew up both on a tiny island off the coast of New Jersey and in the mountains of Colorado. I am also very happy being a Londoner now where I live with my husband and 2 daughters. I am very passionate about music - listening to music and I play the piano - and I also enjoy cooking and doing word puzzles.

Each week, we could have a different question that we answer, so that we can foster more communication and collaboration amongst lab members.
