First of all,we can access to books through online.This is a much more easier way to learn and gain information.Some books are available for free,where we can download for free while some books can be bought at reasonable and affordable prices.This is very convenient as we do not have to go to book stores to buy books or libraries to borrow books.

            In addition,we will be able to gain a lot of information.We can always get the latest news from internet.With the help of technology,we can get information from all over the world. Technology also helps us to read news from different countries.This will enable us to be updated with the latest things happening around the world.

            Furthermore,i-touch is very useful. It is very convenient to use i-touch as it is in the same size of an Iphone. When we go out,it is not practical to carry so many books in our hands,so at this particular time,technology will be very helpful. Technology will enable us to read anywhere at anytime.

            Moreover,audiobooks are also very useful.For example through the language series we can learn a new language.Hence,we can widern our knowledge.This will be a great advantage when we visit foreign countries.Besides series of comedies will be very useful when we are travelling at night.When we listen to comedies,it helps to keep us awake while driving.This will eventually prevent accidents from happening,reduce the number of accidents and save many lives.

PROS AND CONS OF BOOKS AND ONLINE READING. 

In these days, there are various ways of reading according to their respective tastes through reading the book or browsing the internet. Before the era of globalization started, people need to find information in the library with reading from thick books. But with advances in technology, the book has been beat by a simpler digital application of the internet. By using the internet only we can find information everywhere regardless of time. Everything is done finger tips through the app on the cellphone. Moreover, using mobile phones is easy to carry rather than carrying a large and thick book. With the internet as well, we can quickly and easily find information from within and outside the country. But with the ease of the internet, the presence of visitors to the library being reduced. However, the book has its own advantages. for example, by reading the book we can see and touch the book. Furthermore, reading through the book does not hurt the eyes compared to read on the phone screen or tab. Normally people prefer to buy books that they like and to keep as a collection. In conclusion, books and online reading have their own advantage and disadvantage.
 

Books, newspapers and magazines were once the only medium of reading. As time pass, technology improved and so does the medium of reading. People rarely carry books around. Newspapers sales drop. Teenagers nowadays are no longer interested in magazines. With todays technology people replace books with kindle as they are more portable. With kindle, people can easily download a whole library and we won’t have to worry about extra weight when moving to a new place. Thirdly, audiobook has been widely used by people nowadays as they no longer required people to read books. People nowadays can just hear the content of the books. Audiobooks helps usually when the user is a slow reader or it helps when the user is busy doing something else but still wants to gain knowledge. It will also help people that wants to learn a language with its language series. Lastly, itouch is one of the gadget designed for users to read and it is more better compared to kindle as it is more pocket-sized and phone-like. “STUDENTS PERCEPTION ON THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY IN THEIR ENGLISH CLASSROOM”

1.0 Introduction 

       There has been a significant advancement in the field of technology and science in the classroom over past few decades. These advancement made learning more efficient and effective. Although, these development offers many benefits, some people argue that technology in classroom will bring destruction upon students. In order to effectively use technology in english classroom to improve education, we must investigate how students are currently using technology in their english class, how the technology impacts educational outcomes and what they want from their lecturers in the use of technology. Generally, this study will analyze the student perception on the use of technology in their english classroom.

  

         

2.0 Literature Review

       Today’s incoming students and entry level professionals are from the generation known as “Milennials” , born between 1982 and 2002 (Coomes and DeBard ,2004). This generation is the largest in American history and is highly skilled in technology use and innovation. Growing up with technology and digital media has “ fundamentally altered the way this rising generation reads, learns , processes information and solve problems “ (Howe and Nadler, 2010a). Not only are today’s college students more likely to be exposed to technology at younger ages , but they are using internet and devices at higher rates and frequencies.

         

        Living in a digital age, work, education, entertainment and social connectivity are all experienced on the web. Becoming a commonplace activity, in 2012, ninety-six percent of 18-29 year olds used the internet (Pew Research Center,2012). Individuals with higher levels of education used the internet more frequently , only 61% of individuals without a high-school diploma used the internet while 94% of individuals with some college and 97% with a college degree or higher were internet users ( Pew Research Center , 2012).

           With technology as an integrated part of their academic and social

lives , milennials are early adopters. College students utilize technology more frequently than other age cohorts and adapt their usage more rapidly, with one-fifth of college students beginning to

use computers before they are 8 years old (Jones, 2002; McHaney,

2011) .

            With increased innovation and technology developments, access become a concern. Campuses expecting technological fluency and seamless integration into the classroom must also acknowledge that there are students with limited skills and exposure. Students who own a computer during adolescence are more likely to interact with peers through the internet and are generally more comfortable using computer technologies in college (Jones , Johnson-Yale, Millermaier & Perez,2009). Through milennials and college students are more likely than older generations and non-students to use the internet, access by gender and race varies. Frequency and form of technology use influence confidence , ability , and the learning curve for students on the internet. Jones et al. (2009) found that males spent more time online and were more likely to go online overnight than females. Confidence using web platforms and programs is higher among male participants in Huang, Hood and Yoo’s (2012) survey of technologies for learning. Preference for type of online activity also varies with males using alternative search engines and information sources, gaming, entertainment sites and developing original pages (Huang , Hood & Yoo, 2012; Jones et al. ,2009). Females utilize mainstream information gatheribg tools and express higher confidence interacting through email or social media platforms

(Huang , Hoo & Yoo; Jones et al. , 2009). Interacting differently than

males online, female use communicative, interpersonal and educational platforms while males more often use the internet for task related and entertainment activity as cited in Jones et al, 2009. However, both male and female college students showed similar academic and email usage according to Forston, Scotti, Chen, Malone and Del Ben (2007).

 

Technology and internet use also varied by student racial demographics. Hargittai (2010) surveyed first-year college students at an urban university and found that females, Hispanics and students with lower sosioeconomics status reported lower abilities , usage and knowledge of the internet. White student are more likely to have experience with and access to the internet at hoe prior to college and report higher frequency and levels of internet use than their peers (Goode,2010: Hargittai, 2010). Black and Hispanic students more likely to begin their internet experience online use at home (Jones et al., 2009). The increasing gap between technology users and non-users is referred to as the “digitak divide” separating students with prior experience or access to technology , typically whie and / or male , from non- or frequent users predominantly females, minorities and lower socio-economic status communities. As teh use of technolgy becomes an integrated part pf a college education, it is important to understand if and how the digital divide is impacting the educational experiences of different populations of students. This study will explore which students are using technology and how technology is shaping their college experiences.

3.0 Conclusion

       Implementing educational technologies and integrating use of technology in english classroom can be cumbersome for the university and lecturers. Despite this, the evidence is clear that students are looking for opportunities to improve their competencies in technology. In addition, increase used of  technology in classroom is related to a number of aspects of student engagement. All of these reason to make a strong argument for continuing to research technology and it’s interaction with teaching and learning in higher education.
