Ellen was one of those rare individuals who wrapped the strength of her dedication to her students and colleagues as well as the love of her son William and others in kindness and compassion. Whether we spoke about work or family, Ellen never wavered in her selfless support of others nor did she fail to direct her energy in a positive direction for the benefit of all. I never did get to meet Ellen face to face, but in the years I have worked with her online, she had come to be not only a treasured colleague but a dear friend. She represented the best of Kaplan University: devotion to her students, drive to make their experience the best it could possibly be, and determination to help her colleagues be better teachers (and people!). Ellen was always a helpful, enthusiastic colleague. I contacted her with questions many times over the years and she was always quick to respond and follow up to ensure I didn't need anything further. I always knew that if I was stumped, she would come through.

Ellen was a simply amazing friend, colleague, educator, writer, and dedicated to her family. Teaching is more than a job. It's a vocation. Ellen answered that call with boundless energy, optimism, intelligence a wit. Kaplan, Comp/WAC, and our lives are a little darker for her having left us, but the special essence that was Ellen still shines in everything she did and touches. They say people aren't gone if you remember them. We will always remember Ellen.

Given the nature of our work (online), I never met Ellen or spoke with her but everyone spoke highly of her as a colleague. My thoughts are with her family and friends. Godspeed.

I worked with Ellen on a couple of presentations related to using mindfulness in the classroom. She was such a pleasure to work with and offered a warm, grounding presence. I took for granted that I would have many opportunities to work with her again. I will miss her dearly as a colleague and fellow mindfulness aficionado.

Although all of my contact with Ellen was long distance, I so appreciated having her as a collegue during my years at Kaplan. I mostly got to know her through CTL presentations and university accreditation efforts.I was particularly impressed by a session she offered on mindfulness. She managed to make this a topic that was clear, easy to understand, and gave ideas of how to implement it that were much less "New Age" than others I had seen.

Ellen was unfailingly supportive of others, enthusiastic about teaching and excited by student learning. I always felt a bit more centered after talking to her, without really recognizing why. For me, she had a calming presence that clearly extended itself over the phone or Google hangout.

Ellen's passing is a great loss to all who knew her. My sympathies to her family, friends, and her work family!

Just reading of Ellen's passing. So shocked to her the news. She was a joy to work with and touched so many that she encountered. Ellen was an early and enthusiastic supporter of the collaborative work we did at the Innovations Lab at KU. Her original fellowship project was on using synch. tools like Skype to better engage with students. She made a difference!

That's how I started my last email to her just a little over two weeks ago. It is difficult to wrap my mind around that I will not hear her unmistakable voice in meetings and presentations. I can't even begin to think about moving forward with Capstone without her.

Ellen was...well, Ellen. She kept tabs on my kids and was eager to do video chats so she could see and talk to them. When my mom passed away, Ellen worked to help me find peace. And, she was always quick to share a recipe or relaxation technique to help with just about anything.

I know this is long, but I suppose I'm avoiding ending it. There is so much more to say about Ellen. I hope her ever positive energy continues on at Kaplan by way of collaborations and doing all we can for our students.

Ellen will be missed. I will miss her dreadfully.

Ellen was such an inspiring teacher, but what really stands out was her haiku workshops as part of the KU Lit fest. In our busy teaching days, it was refreshing to pause and appreciate poetry with Ellen's gentle guidance. You will be missed, Ellen.

My sincerest condolences to Ellen's family; she was truly a wonderful and kind person. The first time I met Ellen was about ten years ago, attending my first ever Faculty Retreat. I was a little nervous and feeling a bit displaced; but this kind woman came over to me and talked with me a few minutes and made me feel right at home. Even though Ellen and I were in two different departments, we were able to work together last year on a research project on collaboration. Her love for her profession was truly evident. Ellen was always such a delight to be around, whether it was In dance class or a fun lunch outing. She had eclectic taste and added that spice to everything she did as an accent. She dove into everything with gusto; even in putting together her costumes. She taught me to be kind and patient and to just listen. I am forever grateful that she would give encouragement for simple things like taking a trip or writing. She was a wonderful and positive impact with strong beliefs. I will miss our lunch outings together but relish them as warm memories. I will carry her caring advice with me always and try to share it with others.

What I will remember most about Ellen is that she could always be counted on to be the voice of reason. Her contributions, be it as a member of the Faculty Senate or one of the many committees she invariably seemed to find herself appointed to, were always well reasoned and on point. Plus Ellen was just a really nice person. She will be missed by all who knew her. My thoughts and prayers are with her family.

I had not been aware of Ellen's passing earlier this year and was deeply saddened to learn this shining LoveLight being has moved on. Her impact on me and so many others
