Kota Tinggi is known as a historical town because the Sultanate of Johor was established there. Many historical tombs are found here including the famous Makam Sultan Mahmud Mangkat Dijulang (the tomb of the last sultan of the Malaccan Sultanate line), Makam Bendahara Tun Habib Abdul Majidand Makam Tauhid in Kampung Makam. Makam Laksamana Bentan is located in Kampung Kelantan.

The Kota Tinggi Waterfalls at Lombong, 16 kilometres (9.9 mi) north-west of town, are popular tourist destinations.

The waterfalls are 36 meters high, and are located at the base of the 634 meter high Gunung Muntahak mountain. The cool river water drains through a series of shallow pools ideal for swimming. The natural beauty of some parts of the location has somewhat been spoiled by resort development with artificial landscaping.

There are also many beaches along the coastal part of Kota Tinggi. The most popular beaches are Tanjung Balau, Desaru and Batu Layar ('sail rock'), which are 58 km, 55 km, and 62 km from Kota Tinggi town respectively. Chalets and hotels offering reasonable rates can easily be found along the beach.

Teluk Sengat, located 25 km east of Kota Tinggi town, is a popular seafood village among tourists, especially those from Singapore.

Under the Ninth Malaysia Plan Project and Iskandar Regional Development Authority (IRDA), the main road between Ulu Tiram and Kota Tinggi will be upgraded into dual-carriageway. This include the construction of Ulu Tiram Interchange and some bridges along the road. The project had been started since March 2009, expect to be completed by 2011.

kota Tinggi is a town in the state of Johor of Malaysia, located around 42 kilometers north-east of Johor Bahru, on the road to Mersing. Kota Tinggi can also be reached by ferry from Changi terminal in Singapore where tourists need to pass through the immigration check point at Tanjung Belungkur ferry terminal before their arrival. Kuala Sedili or Tanjung Sedili, a small fishing town located 37 km north-east of Kota Tinggi town, is the second largest fishing port in east coast of Peninsular Malaysia.

The small town of Sungai Rengit is about 70 km from Kota Tinggi.

Throughout the week of December 18, 2006, a series of floods hit Johor, Malacca, Pahang and Negeri Sembilan. During this period, these southern Malaysian states, along with Singapore, experienced abnormal rainfall which resulted in massive floods. The rainfall recorded in the city ofJohor Bahru on December 19 amounted to 289mm when the annual rainfall of the city alone is 2400mm. In Singapore, the 24-hour rainfall recorded on December 20 was 366 mm, the third highest recorded rainfall in 75 years.

The flooding began when torrential downpours since Sunday caused rivers and dams to overflow. Weather officials described the flooding as the worst in the area in a century.At least six people died.

Later that week, beginning December 22, North Sumatra and Aceh experienced abnormal rainfall which also caused flooding  An estimated 400,000 people were displaced at the peak of the flooding and at least 118 people dead with 155 people missing as of December 29, 2006. There were fears flash flooding could occur in Malaysia.

According to the CPSC, there are several leading contributors to amusement park injuries and fatalities. Most injuries occur due to:

• Mechanical failure of the ride. For example, the lap bar detaches mid-ride, a roller coaster car detaches, or a structural component breaks. Mechanical failure could be caused by a manufacturing defect or the park's failure to maintain the ride.
• Improper operation of the ride. For example, the operator abruptly stops the ride or incorrectly latches a seatbelt.
• Passenger misuse or failure to follow instructions. For example, a rider intentionally rocks a car, stands up mid-ride, unlatches safety restraints, sits improperly, or holds a child above the safety restraint.
• Inherent nature of the ride. Even without any mechanical defect, operation error, or rider misuse, an amusement park ride may still cause an injury simply because of the nature of the ride itself. For example, according to the CPSC, consumers have reported cases of cerebral and retinal hemorrhage, subdural hematoma, loss of consciousness, headache, and dizziness associated with the extremely rapid spinning of some amusement park rides
