Volkswagen takes $18 billion hit over emissions scandal and cut its dividend. The regulatory action is affecting the broader automotive industry after the exposure of Volkswagen cheating scandal. So Volkswagen agree to framework settlement with U.S. authorities for buying back or fixed these cars with emission cheating, and set up environmental and consumer compensation funds. Analysts said the deal was crucial for VW which can rebuild trust with investors and customers and VW might also face more cost. Besides, VW has not decided whether it will offer compensation to the much larger number of diesel drivers affected outside the United States. VW CEO Matthias Muelle also said he could not put a figure on the total cost of the scandal but no reason to have jobs cut.
