Do you consider young people to be too reliant on their parents?

Paragraph 1: Introduction:
It is definitely true for parents to feel responsible for their children as they have raised them up ever since they were little. However, it also depends on the children themselves to know the limits of being reliant on their parents. In this generation, there are mix of opinions on whether young people are being too reliant on their parents.

Paragraph 2: As times are evolving, so is technology. Mobile phones and computers have certainly played a role in shaping a young person's character.

Paragraph 3: It is seen that young people are now becoming more rebellion to their parents as well. This means that parents may sometimes be the cause of why their children are still being too reliant when they are of a certain age.

Paragraph 5: Conclusion:
There are many factors that contribute to young people being too reliant on their parents.

1) What problems or challenges do young people like you face?

Paragraph 1: Like any stages in life, youth comes with its own set of challenges and problems.

Paragraph 2: Academic stress is one of the most common challenges faced by young people. Besides juggling up to 8 or 9 subjects a year, students are also committed to Co-Curricular Activities (CCAs), which takes up a considerable amount of their time, leaving them drained and deprived of quality rest time. This issue is exacerbated when overly anxious parents sign their children up for tuition classes without taking into consideration the mental toll it would inflict on them.

Paragraph 3: Moreover, the culture of competition prevalent in many classrooms also adds pressure to young people. Many young people face insecurities due to their grades, and often compare themselves to their peers. This competitiveness is not just limited to academics. Many also feel the need to fit in with their peers, and so wealth, appearances and popularity all become sources of the insecurity that many young people face.

Paragraph 4: With so much stress in their daily life, it is no wonder that many young people turn to gaming to unwind. Games offer temporary relief from the myriad sources of stress in life, and this form of escapism is enjoyed by many. Yet problems arises when it turns into an addiction. Gaming addiction pulls young people into a never ending spiral of procrastination and superficial gratification.

Paragraph 5: In conclusion, the multifarious problems and challenges that beset today's youth are vastly different from adults, yet should be addressed with the same seriousness.

'Most young people today are obsessed with looking good.' What are your views?

p1: New trends, new clothing lines, new products, everything new today caters solely for teenagers. We want to attract new friends, gain more followers, feel good in our own skin, and ultimately, just look good. However, to what extent does 'looking good' turn into an obsession for these teenagers? Due to the large influence from social media, paired with unwanted comments from our friends and family, many young people in our generation are obsessed with the idea of being good-looking to impress.

p2: Social media sets unrealistic beauty standards for these teens. Edited and amplified photos of celebrities and influencers make teenagers feel the need to resemble them as to avoid scrutiny from others. Celebrities such as Kylie Jenner and Gigi Hadid receive tons of compliments for their appearances, thus triggering teenagers' desire to chase after their visuals so they would receive the same praise.

p3: Since teenagers are going through the stage of growth, relatives pay special attention to the change in their appearance. Sometimes, relatives would point out the slightest weight gain or blemish. These unwanted scrutiny may induce insecurities within the teenager, urging them to alter their appearance so they do not have any flaws.

p4: Some teenagers go to extremes to change their appearance. It could be bleaching their hair, or changing their whole wardrobe, but teenagers would do anything to achieve their desired looks. In some cases, teenagers may even starve themselves to slim down or spend thousands on new clothes to look 'cooler'.

p5: In conclusion, young people today are obsessed with looking good. There are many factors that contribute to the obsession, but as long as teenagers are able to separate online and offline, and do not take nasty remarks too seriously, then the obsession can be avoided.

1. Parents believe that they are responsible for their children. Do you consider young people to be too reliant on their parents?

Paragraph 1: (Introduction)
Nowadays, children are being spoon-fed everything by their parents. This continues all the way until they become older. Over the years, they unknowingly become over reliant on their parents, falling into the depths of being unable to properly survive in the modern day society. Their parents are the bread and butter of these youths' lives, which forms a turmoil in today's society. Financial independence, emotional support and security are the few main causes which feeds this prevalent issue.

Paragraph 2: (describe financial independence)
Financial independence starts since young. Among teenagers ages 18 to 22, most say they received a lot of or some financial help from their parents in the past year. When the child is young, the parent has to teach their child to be savvy so that they would have the concept of saving up and become financially capable in the future. However, parents who do not instil the concept of saving up in their child and often give them as much money as they like, the child would tend to depend on their parents to give them money instead of working to earn money.

Paragraph 3: (describe emotional support)
In a survey, young adults aged between 18 and 29 say they rely on their parents a lot or some for emotional support. Too much emotional support from the parents to the child tend to be not beneficial for the child as the child would not be able always turn to their parents and talk about their problems. As the parent would often support their child, whenever the child faces a problem, they would talk to their parents and the parents would agree with their child. The child would then feel satisfied and always go to their parent for emotional support.

Paragraph 4: (describe security)
The child would depend on the parent for security as they would want to feel protected and the parent would usually do that.

Paragraph 5:
In conclusion, the young child tend to reliant on their parent.

1) 'Mobile phones are a blessing, not a bane.' Do you agree?

para 1 (intro):
The uses of mobile phones has advanced rapidly since it was first release. From only being able to use it for communication purposes to scrolling through social media, mobile phones provide us with a placenta of comforts. While there are advantages such as the purchasing of items online and the easy excess to movies and shows for relaxation, these devices are also a huge distraction to our kind. Hence, I agree to a large extend that mobile phones are a blessing.

para 2: Mobile phones provide us with easier excess to things in our daily lives.
- online shopping for groceries, meals and other daily necessities.
- transfer of money to pay for bills online
- video calling from the comfort of our homes instead of meeting up in real life
all these saves us time and is more convenient for many who have tight schedules

para 3: Mobile phones provide us with easy access to relaxation. Many find it more ideal to bring their phones out rather than dragging around a heavy laptop bag.
-With the exception of a smaller screen, mobile phones mostly provide the same services as a laptop.
- It allows for people to easily use it at anytime and anywhere, be to game, watch movies or use social media

para 4: The disadvantage of mobile phones is that they are a huge distraction.
- students may become addicted to social media or watching movies to the point that they neglect their studies.
- parents may be obsessed with gaming to the point that they neglect their children's needs

para 5 (conclusion): Despite the many pros that mobile phones can provide us with, it still comes with its cons. Hence, it is up to the user to take responsibility and put a limit to their own usage.

However, there was an occasion that particularly stood out that reshaped my way of thinking

para 2: (describe the start of the conflict) eg. i was already frustrated because i failed two exams, went home and didn't want to talk about the matter. my mother asked me to do chores

para 3: (the build up of the conflict + climax) i could not control myself, not my emotions, not my actions. everything seemed to irritate me, even the slightest bit of sound made me lose my mind. i was not myself that day and when my mother asked for assistance, i was vexed that she could not see how upset i was and i did not want to talk or do anything -> my mother started nagging at me -> lashed my frustrations and anger onto her and shouted at her with hurtful words

para 4: (after the conflict + feelings) i saw the look of my mother after venting my anger on to her and i was struck by the sudden realisation of what i just did and said to my mother -> the guilt that i felt for saying things i did not mean and wished that if i could just go back in time and thought through how my words could have hurt my mother -> apologised to her late at night and she forgave me

para 5: (conclusion - reflection) with every action a parent does for their child, love is always the reason.
