When communicating with someone of importance, it is only right to make sure you are using the correct grammar. Correct grammar includes knowing when to use capital versus lower case letters, knowing where to put a period, comma, or semi-colon, and using the right punctuation at the end of a sentence. If you use incorrect grammar, it could look unprofessional, which could only hurt you. Also, when communicating with others using the internet, understanding that using only capital letters could be portrayed as yelling.

https://www.utep.edu/extendeduniversity/utepconnect/blog/october-2017/10-rules-of-netiquette-for-students.html

https://trevellyan.biz/email-grammar/

Respecting yourself on the internet is very important to learn, even from a young age. Being in a time where social media is constantly being used, it is important to understand that whatever is put out on the internet, is there forever, no matter if you delete it right away. For example, if you post a picture on Instagram using the middle finger, anybody could see that picture in seconds and possibly save it. Those people who saw it, may lose respect for you.

https://teachprivacy.com/10-reasons-privacy-matters/

When using the internet there is a simple way to tell if the source is creditable by looking at the domain of the website. if the website ends in an edu, gov, or org it is most likely creditable. The domain will tell you where this information is coming from. For example, if you have a website that ends in a .gov the website is a federal government site.

https://www.usg.edu/galileo/skills/unit07/internet07_08.phtml

While researching the definition of netiquette I realized the importance and the affect it can have on individuals. As our dependency on the internet grows it is important we teach students how to properly use the internet. Using the internet in the classroom can be a fun and exciting tool for students to learn but it can also be a dangerous tool if it is not used correctly. To get the best results we must teach students how to use it in a constructive way. Educating students on correct netiquette will be beneficial to them it could even protect their reputation. As teachers we yearn for students to have the best chance at achieving in the present and the future, by educating them on netiquette early on it will stick with them and add on to one of there many strengths.

News Literacy is an important skill to have in today's society. Today we all rely on the internet for information especially when the internet is so easily accessible. Having the internet is a great resource but it is also easy to receive false information which is why you should make sure the information is credible. An examples of ways that you can do this is by making sure the source is credible and checking multiple sources. News literacy is important to teach students so that they can decipher false information from correct information. Providing students with the proper techniques and tools when it comes to having successful news literacy will allow them to be confident that the information they're believing is correct.

Being in a time where the internet is being used every day, by people of all ages, it is essential for everyone to understand proper netiquette. Netiquette is an important skill to have because once you put/send something on the internet, it is there forever. Using correct grammar, being aware of what you are saying, posting, and sharing, having manners, and respecting other peoples privacy, are all examples of what it means to have proper netiquette. It is essential to teach our students proper netiquette because they are most likely using the internet every day. Our students have to understand that everything stays on the internet, including cyberbullying. Cyberbullying is a very big problem today and it is important to teach students they will get caught, no matter if they delete the post or not. Also, it is important to teach students the difference of grammar when e-mailing a person of significance, versus texting a friend.

When I was first assigned this project, I thought I knew a lot about both netiquette and news literacy but I was able to acquire a deeper understanding of both topics. Now I know more than just the definition, I know why they are important for everyone to have. As a future educator I see the importance of teaching students about how the internet can be beneficial if they use it correctly. Teaching students how to use the internet properly and how to decipher accurate and inaccurate information is a crucial skill to have. By educating students on both topics it can help students be successful and safe while utilizing the internet. One major factor I took away from this assignment that I didn't consider before was that netiquette and news literacy isn't common sense, it should be addressed to students especially when many people depend on the internet.

News literacy is an essential skill to have in today's society, especially since it is so easy for websites to make up easily believable stories. The internet is a big part of everyday life, and if you are doing an online project or just looking up facts, you have to make sure the facts are valid. When looking up information online, making sure your using websites that end in edu, gov, or org, is very important. Also, if you see a news story, it is probably best to look at multiple sources, to make sure the story is accurate and you know every detail. News literacy is essential to teach students because you want to make sure they are reading accurate over false information. Also, if they are assigned a research project, as the teacher, it is your job to teach them ways on how they can get the best and accurate information.

As an educator in today's society it is crucial to teach students proper netiquette especially when we use the internet to learn in the classroom. I have come up with a fun lesson plan on netiquette that can be taught to students. First I would start by having a discussion on what they think netiquette means. Then I would break down the word netiquette and show them that the word itself provides the definition. After I would play the Tim and Moby video that is displayed in the netiquette section of the padlet. Once the video is over, we would dive deeper into the overall idea of how to properly use the internet and be safe. When our discussion is done I would pass out pieces of paper that had different sentences that displayed bad and good netiquette examples and explain the activity's directions. The activity involves the educator to hang up signs on opposite walls that says bad netiquette and good netiquette. once the students evaluate the sentence they must then hang it up on either the bad or good netiquette sign. Once students are done, I would go over what they choose and point out what makes it good or bad netiquette.

As a future educator, it is essential to teach your students News Literacy, especially if you are going to assign them a research project. If I were to do a lesson about News Literacy, I would do it with 6th graders because I feel like knowing accurate news sources is an important skill to have, especially for middle and high school. I would start the lesson by asking the students to get into groups and then have them talk to each other about what they think News Literacy is. Then I would have them watch the brain pop video, which is in the News Literacy portion of this project. The next thing I would do is show them examples online of what is an accurate versus un accurate source, and give them a worksheet to go with it. I would complete the lesson by having each student take a laptop and asking them to explore the internet while keeping tabs open on two accurate and unaccurate internet sources.

But realizing how involved the internet is in daily life, for people of all ages, I realize how important it is to teach kindergarten students about these topics as well. The research that I did on netiquette confirmed how important it is to use proper grammar, watch what I am posting on the internet, learn to use manners, and respect other people's privacy. The research that I did on news literacy confirmed how important it is to make sure the sources I use for papers are credible, and always to check multiple sources.
