(K)
1. The implementation of integrated studies aims to develop a child’s own understandings of the world around them. Students can explore a range of curricula learning areas that impact everyday life, enriching their concepts of life in the twenty-first century. Via exploring an inquiry approach students create their own learning experiences and develop more complex attachments towards ideas and events.

2. Inquiry learning is an active approach for integrated studies, aiming to build a range of skills for students to tackle life in the future. The engagement of learning areas such as language and literacy provide students with communication abilities, and learning areas including health, physical education, the humanities, technology and science promote collaborative, innovative, cognitive, analytical, and many more skills to assist citizens who are actively involved.

(W)

1. Rather than segregating learning areas integrated studies encourages children to consider how different subjects link together and support each other. In a diverse classroom some children may learn at different paces, speak English as a second language, or have a learning disability. How can we cater for the needs of diverse students, and avoid integrated studies from becoming overwhelming or content overloaded?

2. Integrated studies require a child to consider the “bigger picture” of the world. Learning is limitless and continues to evolve outside the classroom. What are some strategies and resources children and parents can use at home to support their knowledge on social, physical, and biological factors of the world around them?
