It wasn't more of something that was learnt, more of a realization or reminder of something that we all knew. It is true, humans are technically the problem, the problem that is destroying the 'just right' planet for us. We have done so much damage to Earth, in three seconds in ratio to a full day, the amount humans have existed to the amount the earth has existed.

This inevitable destruction was expected to say the least, not because of our wisdom, but because of how we used the things we discovered. People act surprised when they see all this destruction but they're the very ones that caused it. It is really.... Heartbreaking, ngl

it got our attention by putting things into perspective - comparing how long we've existed compared to earth (3 seconds) and constantly reminding us of it. they also increased shock value by saying that in 10-100 years, every recognizable wild animal is predicted to be extinct.
