I was a community college student at Cabrillo College before I transferred as a Literary Studies major into UC Santa Cruz with an emphasis in Modern literature. I loved my literature classes which essentially were an excuse to read, discuss, and write about great books. I spent most of my time at Kresge College where the lit department was located.
I also loved my time at Cabrillo College and it's why I wanted to work at a community college. ❤️

I'd always been a film enthusiast so after college, I moved to L.A. to work in the film industry. I began as an intern at a foreign sales company for independent films and went on to work for three different sales companies in Marketing and Acquisitions before being promoted to Director of Marketing at my last company.

The bulk of our business transpired at four annual international film markets - in Santa Monica, CA, Berlin, Hong Kong, and Cannes. The job was rarely glamorous but one of the perks included the ability to travel.

I'm the middle child in a family of five. I have an older sister and a younger brother and my parents are both retired elementary school teachers.

Film & TV

I go through phases where I favor books, film, and/or TV. Right now, I'm mostly watching things after my daughter goes to bed.

Currently watching/rewatching:

For TV: The Bear (FX on Hulu)

For film: I'm trying to catch up on films of the past 25 years that I only saw once or never saw and keeping track of my progress with this list (and my letterboxd).

I live in Concord, CA and work as the Teaching and Learning Librarian at DVC. I completed my Master's in Library and Information Science in May 2018 and started working in the DVC library in Fall 2018.

In addition to working in the library, I'm also a member of the college's Racial Justice Collective as well as a member of DVC's Pride Alliance.

Back to School

In Spring of 2016, I decided to leave the film industry and attend graduate school at San Jose State to get my Master's in Library and Information Science degree. While in school, I discovered a passion for information literacy instruction and academic librarianship so being hired as an instruction librarian at DVC is kind of my dream job. My entire graduate program was online (I've never been to SJSU) so I have lots of experience as a student in online classes.

I have a daughter, Laila, who is four and a half years old and she is the love and light of my life. This is us in Durham, NC this past summer when we visited one of oldest friends.

Bay Area Parks

I prefer to be inside but my daughter LOVES being outside so we've had fun exploring all the different parks near us.

The Beach

Living in both southern and northern California, I've been lucky to always be close to the beach which is where I feel most at peace with the world and myself.

Trivia

I'm a lifelong trivia enthusiast. I used to watch Jeopardy every day (until I got rid of cable). I also very occasionally play a trivia game hosted by Prof. Bessie (of the DVC English department).

Here my team took first place this summer and included Dean of the Library, Anne Kingsley, Prof. Cohen (Horticulture), and Prof. Ghori (English).
