One example of a recurring idea I'm seeing in the text is the motif of 'outsiders.' Jonas sees a plane that is different than the planes he has seen before and is frightened of it, while Lily, when encountering outsiders from another community, is angry with them. In both cases, this motif is met with strong emotion from both characters and is a recurring idea.

Jonas's community is a dystopia. As when they come of age they go to a ceremony to revive their future job. This in my eyes is bad as 12 year old's are pushed into a job they may not want and will have to stick with it though there lives.

A motif I keep seeing in The Giver is the ceremony that brings people into a new stage of their lives. It's brought up many times in the story and it could have a big impact on the characters' lives.

The commitee makes choices wisely when choosing jobs for Twelves, choosing marriage candidates, and choosing newchildren. They ensure a painless (but emotionless) life for people.

Jonas' community is a dystopia because there are restrictions to the community. People aren't allowed to make their own choices. For example, at the ceremony of twelve, their assignments are given to them. The people don't choose the assignments they want.

Jonas' community has strict rules, which say the family must consist of only four members: two parents, one female and one male, and two children, also one female and one male. The people's memory is also erased, which is then sent to the Reciever, that's dystopian mostly because they can't hold on to some of their memories, and if something that you were supposed to remember is then erased, well I guess you're done for then.

The giver reminds me of squid game because squid game is disguised as a fun little game until the players find out that they get killed if they lose, and the world in the giver is disguised as a great place where everything is perfect but it turns out to be bad when you think about it
