16/10/18
19:00-20:00
Today I translated a passage from the textbook completely into English (pg.7). The words that I struggled with I looked up on dict.cc and highlighted for future reference. This helped me to understand sentence structure and also learn new vocabulary. I also re-watched the video on how to pronounce the alphabet and different sounds such as 'ch' at the beginning and end of words and how they differ. I also spent 20 minutes on Duolingo, solidifying my knowledge on common phrases and the variants of 'the' in front of different words. As you can see from the image on the right, I have leveled out these sections to the maximum, and will continue to use Duolingo daily to help keep my German skills and pronunciation consistent.

24/10/18
11:00-12:00
From Tuesdays class session and feedback from homework, I identified grammar and sentence structure as a weakness. Today I went over how to change sentence structure depending on whether the subject or the temporal adjective went first. I then created some of my own by describing what I eat at different times throughout the day. I also focused on my lack of vocabulary by revising flashcards on Quizlet, which also aided in identifying and remembering the different genders of nouns. I also spent 20 minutes on Duolingo, which I continue for at least 10 minutes a day.

19/11/18
17:00-17:45
Today I went corrected the errors from my Essential Homework 1. I then researched the proper use of the dative case as that was my main error throughout the piece. I then used Duolingo to work specifically on the dative case, which I leveled up from 1 to 3 which took approximately 30 minutes. I learned how to form sentences such as "Es gibt Menschen, die kein Haus haben" in the dative case.

25/11/2018
15:00-16:00
After the mock oral exam in lab hour, I recognized my weakness in the verbal pronunciation of the alphabet. I used this video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wpBPaDI5IgI and also recorded myself repeating the alphabet afterwards to ensure I got it correct. I then used the online version of the course book to complete exercise 14 on page 43. I listened and wrote down what Manfred did on each day, rather than just the three for the exercise. I then wrote in German what I do each week which helped me to gain a firmer grasp on vocabulary as well as sentence formation.

01/12/18
15:00-16:30
Today I retook all of the formative tests available on MOLE. This allowed me to identify where my weaknesses were within different topics and correct them. The tests helped me to conjugate verbs, especially modal verbs which can be trickier than others. From the results it is clear I struggled with prepositions the most. As a result, I did extra revision on prepostions. I started off by simply making a list of the most common and their translations. I then wrote down some examples of sentences containing these prepostions.

05/12/18
18:00-19:00
Tonight I had a conversation with my friend who had taken A-level German. We covered most of the material that I had learned- including jobs, free time and household objects. I found that I had no problem understanding what he was saying, but I struggled to form complex sentences without writing them down first. This exercise did help my pronunciation however. In response to this, I went over sentence structure that included model verbs, temporal adverbs, as well as questions. I studied how these affected the order and conjugation of words and revised the corresponding patterns.
I also started to look at the future and past tenses in German- including words such as 'gekauft' (bought), 'gegangen' (went) and 'gesehen' (seen). This helped me to express myself better in conversation in German with my friend.
