Hi everyone, here is the curated Wakelet that I created for teaching a Unit Plan on The Giver by Lois Lowry. This is a Grade 8 coming-of-age novel study, where students are asked to explore themes of identity, expression, conformity, and growing up. I created a slideshow for it, but I have so many links within the slideshow that pasting them all in the Wakelet helped me to organize myself accordingly, and put all of my cards out on the table, so to speak. I honestly am really glad that I now know about Wakelet, because I'll definitely be using it in the future! Can't wait to view all of your posts, and feel free to scroll through mine if ever you need assistance and want to teach an excellent book such as this! :-)

Hi all! Though I looked through the other options presented by Gonzalez (2023) but Wakelet was really easy to use and organize the way I liked. I wanted to curate a sort of masterlist of essential resources for someone like myself who is teaching EFL in South Korea in the public system, though most of these resources (exculding the textbook guide I made) would be useful to EF/SL teachers or teachers generally. I could definitely add more but these 5 are my sort of top 5 resources I wish I had day one of my practice! Thanks for reading~

Hello everyone! I have created a unit plan for the chapter Flight for Grade 6. This unit deals with the concept of flight- properties of air that facilitate aviation, and its history and impact. The goal is for young learners to understand the idea in detail and to be able to evaluate its global impact. Using wakelet was really easy as it allowed me to organize the material needed for the unit in one place. Though I usually use google classroom for collecting data, this is also a great option!

Hi everyone,

The topic I chose to digitally curate is one that focuses on a very important skill - paraphrasing! As a student coach in postsecondary education, I've noticed that many of my students struggle immensely with paraphrasing. Many haven't had enough practice, aren't familiar with what it is and it sometimes results in accidental plagiarism. To avoid this, I've digitally curated a collection of resources (links, video, practice sheets) so that students have this information readily available and accessible. With the amount of information available online, it can sometimes be overwhelming to search and focus in on the right resources, so this curated Wakelet can assist them in that process.

Hope you enjoy! :)

Teaching your students about chatbots is both relevant to 21st century communication and engaging as a course project! Not sure what a 'chatbot' is? Don't know how to build one in a designated platform? No coding needed, you can check out these nifty resources and be on your way to chatbot-creation in no time.

What's a chatbot?

"A chatbot is a conversational piece of software powered by pre-programmed responses or artificial intelligence to answer questions without the need of a human operator" (Pickell, 2019).

Why would I want to talk about chatbots with my high school students? How might learning to build one help their learning as 21st innovators?

Exploring the current use and potential future use of chatbots with your high school students is relevant as they already engage with chatbots much of the time. PHASE 1 would be to help them identify when they engage with a chatbot in order to understand what it is (customer service chatbots on a website, ordering food from a chatbot, social media chatbots, fitness chatbots, duolingo/ learning program chatbots, etc.) PHASE 2 would be to help them explore what else is possible with chatbots? How might making their very own chatbot serve them? PHASE 3 would be to explore emergent Artificial Intelligence (AI) and where the humble chatbot fits into this growing field?

These conversations help students think in nuanced ways about their current 21st c. world and what is to come as AI's presence will grow into every aspect of their lives. The goal is to help students envision how they might play a part in innovating the course of technologies such as chatbots/AI.

Possible high school courses where chatbot/AI learning may be applicable:

Media Studies, English Language Arts, Language courses, Computer Science, Social Studies.

Recommended grade level: 9-11

Head over to my Wakelet to learn more and check out the resources I've curated!

Hello everyone,

I have created a curation of different math websites that can help and be beneficial within the primary/junior classroom. The curation give teachers and educators the access to use various game based learning websites for math to be able to present the learning material in a new, fun, engaging and interactive way while still being able to meet curriculum expectations, which in turn sets them up to be life long learners. These websites, serve in many ways to allow students to be more interested in wanting to learn about math, and speaking from personal experience I have used many of these website before within my classrooms and found that the students were more eager to learn when using them.
