As with all previous technologies put up for debate, nanotechnology has changed the face of our economy over the years, with ever-shrinking transistors, aerogel, and carbon nanotubes improving production quantity and efficiency of our industries, especially that of the Artificial Intelligence and Robotics industry. Like the other technologies, there exists as well catastrophic consequences and ethical issues accompanying these technologies. However we must realise that these have accompanied every major advancement over the course of our history. Some examples would be the Manhattan Project and the invention of the cotton gin. Despite innately possessing these risks, these technologies have brought great benefit to us as a whole, and therefore we should embrace it fully in order to unlock its full potential.

The lack of research and understanding of the risks behind such an event will have severe implications against living organsims and the environment that the nanotechnology interacts with. Combined with its likelihood of self replication, the possible consequences are just far too great to ignore and for humanity to recover from. Regulations need to be implimented and enforced to reduce the risk of such a catastrophe.

I support lifting all restrictions of nanotechnology. Personally, none of the groups have convinced me on how nanotechnology can really harm the human race. The argument centralisés around nanoparticles. Whether that can be considered nanotech is debatable, and furthermore nanoparticles have been around since the industrial revolution as the government team has pointed out. This is harmful but doesn’t justify the restrictions to its development. I belief that the only reason for restrictions of the development of technology should be something that hasn’t more impact.
