Grades 7-11 Kamala Khan is a geeky 16-year-old Pakistani girl in Jersey City with fairly strict Muslim parents, and she is tired of feeling like a weirdo for eating unusual food and having to stay home most weekend nights. She sneaks out one evening to go to a party, but a strange fog rolls in and the Avengers appear before Kamala, speaking Urdu, and they grant her wish to be like Ms . Marvel —right down to the blonde hair and skimpy outfit. Kamala spends the next few days trying to master her new shape-shifting powers, and she struggles with how to appear. Should she abandon her brown skin and Pakistani features in order to be more recognizable as Ms . Marvel ? She opts to look like herself, and after updating her burkini for a superflexible costume, she embraces the mantle of protector of Jersey City. Wilson’s story touches on many issues bubbling up around comics today—diversity, gender, culture , sexuality —though never with a heavy hand. The story is the focus here, and together with Alphona’s playful and stylish artwork, Wilson offers a superhero comic full to bursting with heart and charm. Kamala is a supremely likable and relatable hero, and teens will likely line up for more. -- Hunter, Sarah (Reviewed 12-15-2014) (Booklist, vol 111, number 8, p38)

I personally agree with this review. The book touches on Kamala's struggle on her appearance, I agree that this statement is true as in the book she struggle on how her appearance should look when she is in superhero mode. I do agree that it does touch on issues that are involved with comics today i can see that this book was definitely a step in the right direction for comic books. I do agree that wilson offers a heartning and charming story, the structure and themes in this book could be a good example for comic books moving forward. I also agree that kamala is likable and relatable, she seems a lot more human than most comic book characters now. Overall think this book is great and the review is great.

In this quote we see some of Kamala's true colors. We learned that even though she was a superhero she didn't like hurting things. This conflicts her new role as a superhero. I mean how can u be a superhero without hurting things. The reason why I like this quote is because it makes her more human than just a regular comic book character. It makes her more human than the superhuman she's supposed to be.

The reason I chose this picture of lightning is because I believe that kamala khan is so powerful that she is herself much like lightning. Lightning is a powerful surge of energy that only happens every once in a while. Similar with kamala khan she was turned into a powerful inhuman due to a strange fog that awakens her powers. Lightning is powerful which should be obvious, but kamala khan is also powerful. Kamala Khan can embiggen her limbs to greatly increase her strength, but she is also strong by heart. She is easily brave enough to throw herself into I fight she may not even win. Through all her troubles she has easily proved herself to be lightning.

The point of view this book has is First person. We learn the story through kamals eyes and what she is seeing. This gives the reader a better understanding of the character. We learn that even though she has these crazy powers it's still not easy being both a teenager and superhero. At home she has very strict parents that will ground her for leaving the house without their permission or attendence, this makes it hard for kamala to get out there and save the world. Since she just got her powers it's also hard to fully learn how to use them. Through us knowing this we can start to relate to her more story instead of her being an unrelatable boring superhero.

The plot of this book is really good. The story is new for the comic book community, it follows a young Muslim teenager having to deal randomly becoming a superhero and having to deal with it. Through the story she learns her purpose. She learns that she should still be herself and be brave enough to risk hurting herself to save others, even if it means hurting others. She meets other people on the way like other superheros and one of them is even wolverine, she also meets the antagonist who is a Thomas Edison clone but is also at the same time a giant bird. In the story they duke it out like a classic superhero novel while Kamala has to deal with constantly getting grounded when she comes home late. Overall the story has a good plot going for it.

The bonus I chose for today is explaining the title. The title of the book is Ms.Marvel. This is actually the name that kamala adopts after she is referred to on the news as Ms.Marvel. She uses this names for her superhero alter ego. If she doesn't do this then people could find out who she and her family is and put them in danger. This is helpful to her so she can further protect the people she loves.
