1. 8

2. Yes, it does. I remembered once, I had a A2 for math I was devastated because I usually scored A1 for math. So, when I had my first A2 I was disappointed because I deproved as I didn’t maintain my standards. But after that moment, I didn’t give up on myself and strives to do better. So, this poem reminds me of this incident of my life.

3. Lines 5-6. I feel these 2 lines are the most important lines as both of them are talking about when you are stressed or feeling down, we can stop a while to reflect but we should still persist/ go on with life. Which is basically the overall meaning of the passage and the title itself. Therefore, I feel that lines 5-6 are the most important lines in the entire poem.

Vera

1. 8
2. There was one incident when I was in Primary School. I was continuously getting a low B or C for English. At that time, I was getting more and more stressed when it comes to English test . Thus, I decided to searched on interesting ways to learn English to not upset my parents and do well for PSLE . I determined and persevered in improving my English Language for around 1 months . Although I did not get an A for English last year, I was pleased to get a high B for English .

3. I think the most important lines in Don't Quit is line 13 and 6. The reasons I chose line 13 was because I felt that every first try are not perfect. We need to have mistakes in order to improve on something. The reasons I chose line 6 was that even though we got an aim, we cannot overwork ourselves. We need to rest in order to work well and complete our work efficiently and correctly. If you got an aim, you got to chase it, never give up !

Lim Jia Hui

Sometimes I wonder if I chose the option that I did not, would it be any different? What would happen?
3) I took the one less traveled by, and that was the difference. The last two lines of the poem. I feel that it is important as it shows that he is brave and curious to take the path that is less traveled by as he doesn't know if he will make it out of the forest. He also tries something that few people try and that shows that he is curious and wants to find experience something not many experience, also showing that he is brave.

Rei Qi

*Don’t Quit*
1) 5
2) No. I’m not a perservering person. In my opinion, giving up is the best option most of the time, considering everything I do is not worth saving. Its like trying to save a brain-dead baby. Would you rather pull the life support plug or pay a million dollar bill for a kid that can barely speak in the future? I would pull the plug. That is what I do to most of my projects. “You may succeed with another blow” is written in the poem. Let’s just hope whatever I am doing doesn’t go wrong the next moment. Whatever I’m doing is mostly worthless anyways.
3)The last 2 lines.
Regret is a horrible thing. Its worse than all the pathetic emo instagram teens put together. The feeling of knowing you could’ve done something really stings, and the poem is trying to help us avoid that. The entire purpose of this poem is to tell us to persevere and not regret.
Gabrielle

1) 8/10.

2) Yes, it does. Back in Primary School, I was utterly terrible at P6 science. I had almost always failed every single practice paper and test. Due to my science teacher’s ability to give me tons of anxiety by possibly asking me a question resulting in me looking stupid because I barely know the answer, I started revising way harder than I ever have in order to avoid being a complete mess in front of the scariest teacher I’ve ever met. Thus, I improved and understood concepts way more easily. There were definitely moments where I could not understand certain things and felt so stupid and just wanted to give up. At these moments, I remember my teacher’s intimidating and sometimes condescending tone and presence, and realise that I would rather keep on trying than embarrass myself in front of her. Not long after, I started studying more not just because I was terribly afraid of my teacher, but because I wanted to be better for myself. All this hard work resulted in me getting an achievement of my first ever A in science and being top 2 in class. I was definitely happy and was extremely glad that I chose to keep on persevering.

3) Lines 17-18, “So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit- It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.”

These lines remind us that although things seem like it could not possibly get any better, you are so much stronger than you believe; you can get through this, it will get better I promise you. You have to keep fighting for what you want/believe in and must not let it go, no matter how unbearable it feels. Although a rest is definitely something that everyone deserves, but we tend to simply rest for too long and tell ourselves “I just need more time”. You may feel exhausted of going through what seems like an endless cycle of doing your best ending up falling harder and harder, but this cycle will become no longer if you just keep persevering. Thus, when you feel like you have reached a dead end, never stop exploring until you can find a destiny you can gladly call yours.

- Nadine

1) 8/10
2) Yes, it does remind me of an incident in my life . Last year , I was not coping well academically and many a times , I wanted to give up. Fortunately, my friends encouraged me to keep trying and I would definitely reach my goals. They would explain to me why I got certain questions incorrect and sometimes, they would even go the extra mile and write down notes for me to understand better. My English teacher kept cheering me on and even if I did not do as well for my examinations for that period of time, she would tell me that with time, I would improve. "Never give up" she said. and so I listened.
3) I think that the most important lines in the entire poem are 'And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,' and 'Life is strange with its twists and turns' . In my opinion, these lines remind me that things are never easy and that is just the reality of the world which we cannot change. They motivate me to be resilient even when I am going through my hardest times because I am not the only one going through such hardships and there are even more people out there going through worse situations.
Anthea

I was devastated cause I never done that badly before for my exams. I remember feeling helpless, unable to understand what my teacher was teaching and afraid to ask questions or ask for help. I felt that I should just give up since I won’t improve anyways. My mom got me a tutor soon after so I would practice math more often to understand it easier and I won’t be lost in math lessons. I slowly got better with the help of my tutor and eventually I got a 95 in math at the end of the year exam. I remember being overjoyed as after months of my hard work I saw improvement.

3) So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit
Reason : It’s true that when things are rock bottom is when things will start improving.

1) 8/10
2) Yes, it does remind me about my PSLE results. I got A for English and my parents were rather proud of it because during my prelims, i scored a C for my English and my mother was rather disappointed, she said i could do better, but I thought i was already giving my one hundred percent. I knew I could not give any better. But, I wanted to really test my limits at that point of time. I wanted to see how much I really could score and most importantly, I didn't quit. The number of vocabulary closes were uncountable, not only that but i did so many English test papers, only because, I want the best or nothing at that point of time.
And I got a happy ending. I got an A for my English and I was very proud of myself. I had proven myself that I have the capability to do what I wanted to achieve.
3) My favourite line in the poem was "So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit- it is when things seem to be wost but you must not quit.
This is my favourite line in the poem as they emphasize on the fact that you must push to get the thing you want. 1) 6.5/10

2) It reminds me of a few incidents in life where i had to choose between two roads, in which i had to make a final decision in the end. For example - I had to choose whether to buy earrings or a toy. This may seem childish but even though the earring looked pretty, it really wasn't something i would wear THAT often. And the toy was much more cooler but i knew it wasn't going to last very long. As each items have their different pros and cons, it was difficult to choose something in the end like choosing between a black bag and white bag, but sometimes you just have to take a risk.

3) "Two roads diverged in a wood, and I, I took the one less travelled by, And that has made all the difference" This shows that every decision you make it important and that you cannot base your own answer on others. "I took the one less travelled by", shows that the writer made his choice after thinking hard about the choices and decide to not take the mainstream path as even though one path may be more popular, it might not be correct. "And that has made all the difference", shows that even if you select one decision instead of the other, the outcome may be completely different. Every decision has a different consequence and we can't just go head in with our answer. Instead of going head in first, we should instead use our head

Although some part of my brain said this isn’t my best I was too sad to think about it. But then I decided on something. I wanted to give one last shot and if i make it I’m going to be proud ignore myself and if it’s not im going to learn some thing new about me. Im going to learn that that was my 100%. I studied like I never studied before. I still could not remember how many test papers I did. So many test papers until I had to drink a lot of chicken Essenes and eat a lot of Panadol to cure my headache and tiredness. And so finally after all the tests had been written I realised something. I realised that, the test was rather easy while the rest found that it was hard. And at the end of the day I got what I wanted, an A for my English for my PSLE.
3.

[1] 7/10

[2] The poem reminds me of when i was in primary school. I was in the best class (6G) among all the other smart ones, but my math grades were about as low as the D class. I barely passed for CA1, and my math marks for prelim makes me want to laugh at myself. I was basically the weakest student in math in my class, and there is not a lot of outstanding things in my grades either. That’s why for Sec 1, i want to pay attention in class more often and put my mind and heart into every piece of work i do.

[3] i think the two most important lines in the poem are Lines 5, “When care is pressing you down a bit” and 16, “It may be near when it seems so far”. Line 5 may be talking about how we have to be someone else, or not be yourself, in order to make friends with other people that you take an interest in but have little to none similarities. This causes us to be two-faced and unsure of ourselves. We are confused to even knowing who we actually are. You try to care for others but sometimes you feel you don’t get returned for your kindness. Line 16 is kind of like the meme “So close, yet so far—“ but in a positive form. Even little sentences like these can make us feel important and proud of ourselves so as to not give up and press on. I think that line meant about not caring about how far are your targets. Your targets may be far, but not impossible to reach. We do not need to care about how much we have to do just to achieve a target, but as another meme goes “JUST DO IT”.

~ rachell (☝︎ ՞ਊ ՞)☝︎
