By the mid 1960s, the Sylvania BK10 tube radio was a staple in many classrooms, including my grandma's. She remembers how teachers would use the radio to play educational broadcasts, which covered a variety of subjects she mentioned like history, language, and science. She said these were fun to listen to and learn since you had to imagine what they were talking about in the radio.

I cannot even imagine how excited kids were to hear the radio turn on in class just to hear broadcast compare to now how everything is on video and being shown on tv in class.

My grandma mentioned how they didn't have a telephone in the home. They couldn't afford it. My grandma recalls how the telephone was used to communicate with parents, coordinate school events, and even allow students to contact family members in emergencies.

It made me realize how easy it is now then it was before…

For example, my niece Mia who's in 6th grade has a cell phone so she could call or text her mom who is my sister for emergencies. Now days kids don't ask teachers to go to the front office and call there parents it either they have a cell phone or they ask there friends for there cell phones.

My aunt who said she used a typewriter in school in the 1970s. She said it was the fundamental tool in her school. Learning to use the typewriter was a skill that required precision, patience, and practice. She said it was hard at first how to use it and it took a bunch of practice. She said they had a class to help type on typewriters in our era it would be consider computer class. She recalls that the class taught you how to place your fingers properly on the typewriter and type efficiently without looking at the keys.

This made me realize how much harder it was to learn on a typewriter than a computer now. There's no screen in front of you but a paper.

In 1994, my mom was in high school, and the floppy disk was a vital tool for saving and transferring data. My mom said she would carry that floppy disk everywhere with her. She had every presentation and essays on a floppy disk! It was her way of saving every data she wanted to save on the computer.

When I was in school we used USBs so I could imagine how she felt not losing her floppy disk. I would freak out if I lost my USBs and losing all of my work that I did for school!
